G Thomas Milic - Manitoba Moose, AHL (2023, 151st, WPG)

To be eligible, players must be 18 years old by Sept. 15 and under 20 years old by Dec. 31 in the draft year. However, non-North American players over 20 years old are eligible. North American players who go undrafted by age 20 are considered to be unrestricted free agents (UFAs). All non-North Americans MUST be drafted before they can sign an NHL contract, despite their age.

That's from NHL.com, unless Milic is some sort of exception.
these rules are always confusing. wouldn't milic be 19 as of dec 31 "in the draft year"? he turns 20 in april
Not to be pedantic, but pretty much every other article on the web says he is a free agent.

His birthday is in April, so I'm guessing he can sign a free agent contract on his birthday once he is 20?
Rules change more often than you would expect when it comes to eligibility but Milic is still eligible this year. The 20 year mentioned above is 21. Because he was born after Jan 1st/03 and before Sept 15th/05 he is valid. Next year will be his overage year in the CHL and he will be a FA if he is not selected this draft

What? Since when has this ever been true? There are Euro FA signed every year who were never drafted.

No lol. Foreign players need to play 2 full seasons of professional hockey and be atleast 22 before they sign (Sweden, Finland, Russia, Czech) or atleast 24 (Swiss, Latvia Germany). Stupid rule but it is what it is

Sorry, you're right. I'm getting "draft year" confused with the actual year of the draft.

Gotta think he at least gets drafted this year. Don't think it will be with a very high pick, but I think hes a good shot to gamble on. Hes been great this year.

It's patently unfair that a team with a skating group like Seattle has a guy like Milic in net.

They feel unbeatable.
Not to mention their other goalie Scott Ratzlaff is leading the league in GAA.

Ratzlaff and Milic have both played 32 games each and they are ranked #1, #2 in GAA in the league... #1, #2 in shutouts .... And also #1, #3 in save percentage

I'd imagine Ratzlaff will be potentially a 2nd round pick this upcoming draft and also Milic should also be drafted.

Absolutely.

Since the addition of Guenther they're undefeated in regulation. 18-0-1 in their last 19 games, outscoring their opponents 91-27 in that span.

That's 4.8 GF/GP vs 1.4 GA/GP. Imagine outscoring your opponent by almost 3.5 goals per game. They've held their opponent to 1 or fewer goals in 11 of those 19 games.

That's ****ing nonsense.

It's insane... I've never seen a team assembled this well before. And they have an added element of also being a big strong team as well. The mix of skill, size and speed is out of control... I really don't see how a team could possibly beat them 4 times and win a series against them.

If they can get 100% healthy it will be pretty crazy. They just got Dach back but were still missing Sawchyn, Gustafson, and Iginla last night.

At full strength their lineup is stupid:

Ciona - Lambert - Guenther
Schaefer - Davidson - Crnkovic
Dach - Sawchyn - Myatovic
Iginla - Gustafson - Popowich

Korchinksi - Allan
Hanzel - Prokop
Mynio - Pickford

Milic
Ratzlaff

That's
- 3 legit first lines, including the best duo in junior hockey.
- 2 legit top defense pairs, including a top 2 dman in the WHL. They are all over 6' as well, and their top 4 average out at ~6'3
- 2 1A starting goalies, including the best goalie in the WHL.

10 of their 12 forwards are scoring at >0.86 ppg. And 8 of of those 10 are at or above a PPG.
The roster has 10 NHL draft picks, including 5 first rounders (soon to be a 6th with Sawchyn).

Has to be the most loaded junior team in history.

Wanna hear a crazy thing I just learned? Ratzlaff is from a town called Irma, which has only 477 people. Gord Mark (Former NHL player), Carson Soucy (Current NHL player), Jagger Firkus (Projected NHL player), are all also from the small village.

I want to say Soucy and Firkus are both with the Kraken organization. Interesting that 3 of the 4 have some sort of ties to the area.

Same goes Minio this year, and for Iginla, Pickford, and H Davidson in 2024...

Hanzel, Crnkovic, Myatovic, Popowich, and Dunn are realistically the only TBirds who probably won't be NHL draft picks.

You don't think Myatovic will be drafted? He seems to be thought of pretty highly by some.

Brainfart, got caught up in typing up the "ich's lol

Oh I hear you! But I have to say Jeremy Hanzel is a fan favorite, and I hope he gets picked up as a Free Agent. He might not have all the tools of other D, but I've seen some offensive skill, and he has the best 'hands' aka fighting on our team. He just seems to know his role.

He scored a beauty a week or so ago. Great set of hands. I'd be shocked if he doesn't get some camp invites.

I think there is potential Crnkovic signs a FA deal potentially tho after the season or atleast some invites to NHL camps and play some AHL. He was a top 5 scorer last season in the league

I think he will be a tweener / AHL guy. I don't see him fitting in the bottom six due to his size, and I don't think he will ever be good enough to play on any NHL teams top 6 roster.

LOL, mostly me, in the Nico thread.

As for Milic, you have to wonder why teams missed on him last year, when he had that sparkling playoff run. He may actually be better this time around. Makes you wonder if all the NHL scouts missed the playoffs...
