looking like the top goalie prospect for 2025.

For me, Jack Ivankovic, Carl Axelsson and Ptoyr Andreyanov are all ahead of Ravensbergen.

Joshua reminds me of Sebastian Cossa. Big tall goaltender with amazing junior stats, but struggles at the pro level.

Of course he’s good, I created the thread, that being said Jack Ivankovic is miles better than this kid

Nah. Ravensbergen is probably the most dominant rookie I've ever seen in the CHL. Of course lacking consistency a little bit but he's got all the tools. Big guy as well. Key to success for goalies is between the ears so you never know but sky is the limit for Ravensbergen. He's impressive.

The stuff I hear about this kid on a weekly basis with my friend who works with the team is just elite. Just a stand out amazing human being on top of being arguably one of the league's top tendys already.

Really, REALLY excited for what he's got in store with this club. I have a feeling he's gonna be a PG legend.

He and his friends rescued a kid that was hanging off a ski lift a few years ago. Very high character kid.

lol

You know who else was really good as a rookie? Zach Fucale. They’re a product of the teams around them. He’s also a late birthday so saying he’s a “rookie” is a stretch Even if it is factually correct.

Do you actually watch Cougars hockey?
Riley Heidt probably can't even spell "defense", "backcheck", "physicality" or "two way".

The Cougars are a great team but because of their offensive firepower, not because of their defense. Their d-corps is underwhelming and most of their forwards, much like Heidt, aren't exactly defensive specialists either.

If you watch the Cougars a bit, you'll see that Ravensbergen is much better than Ty Young already. Ty Young is an average goalie but not a poor one. We're talking about an NHL drafted, well established WHL vet goalie...yet he never had a chance vs Ravensbergen. Ravensbergen came in and instantly ate Ty Young's lunch.

In the CHL it’s much easier when you don’t play the bulk of the games. When this goalie gets more starts you’ll see his stats plummet.

Again...do you watch Cougars hockey? Ravensbergen started 6 of the last 8 games, 7 of the last 10. He's the Cougars clear cut starter. Of course we'll have to see for how long he can keep it up but again...I don't think I've ever seen a rookie goalie come into the CHL like this. And he's got all the tools. He's big, he's athletic and he's got a very good technique already.

He‘s still second in games played. He’s also a late birthday ‘06. he‘s not a real rookie. Don’t get me wrong, I like the player but when people are non stop glazing a player like you are, you are setting unrealistic expectations for this player.

He’s got a long way to go to match Carey Price’s 04-05 season in the WHL, on a team that was WAY worse than this Cougars team is.

He compares more to Tristan Jarry, Griffin Outhouse, Jamie Tucker, James Reid, Kent Simpson, Trent Miner or Dustin Tokarski.

I never set any expectations. Goalies are voodoo. Even the most talented goalie prospect can easily bust. I always say that for goalies, the most important is what happens between the ears. You need to be mentally strong and have the ability to focus when you're on the ice. Not just for days but for months and years. Otherwise you're not gonna make it in the NHL no matter how talented you are.

So no, I'm not gonna set any expectations, I just said that he's the most impressive, most dominant rookie goalie I've seen coming into the CHL. It may help that he's a righty but again, I like what I see. He's got all the tools.

Also again, the Cougars are a good team but they're not good defensively. Ty Young is a decent goalie. An NHL drafted, veteran goalie. Yet still he does get lit up on a more or less regular basis. Still has an 12-6 record but that's because of goal support, not defensive support from his teammates.

He will be a PG legend but so will Riley Heidt who is 17 points away from becomging the PG Cougars all time leading scorer.

Of course the Victoria version had many high scoring players in a much higher scoring era.

I'll admit that I know nothing about goalies and they are the hardest to project but my lord he has 6 shutouts in 18 games FFS.

Canuck draftee who is 2 years older Ty young has one in 18 games played.

The more time you spend on offense, the less you have to spend playing defense. Also, Ty Young getting drafted was instantly a bit of a weird one. He was never drafted because he was good but because the Canucks' goalie coach thought he could turn him into something good. That never happened, so being better than Ty Young isn't THAT big an achievement.

Still, I frickin love Ravensbergen, he's a stud.

Cougars still give up lots of chances, especially quality chances because their defense is no good and many of their forwards are one dimensional. Having said, they're working on it and recently addressed a need by acquiring big overager defenseman Chase Pauls. Might not be their last move.

I just wanted to point out that playing goal for the Cougars isn't particularly easy despite them being a good team.

Just watched his past two games. He's officially stolen the net from Ty Young. He started both games back to back against Seattle and won both games. Missed out on setting the rookie shutout record by a few minutes.

He's got really quick feet for a goalie.
He's impressive. Extremely dominant. Best Canadian born goalie prospect in a long long time. Should be the first goalie off the board next year. Only question for me is if he makes it to the 1st round or not.

I'm no scout, but I get to a lot of cougars games. This kid is so calm in the net, even after he gives up a bad one or has a rough game, it doesn't seem to get to him. To me it seems like he gives up way less stinkers than Young does.

He should have had the shutout on Monday night, the team left him out to dry right at the end of the game.

I find it crazy he wasn’t drafted to the WHL. How did that happen?
He's a late birthday in a league that drafts their players after their 14 year old season, instead of after their 15 year old season like the O and Dub do. Due to age, it's possible that he just developed a bit later and might have gotten fewer elite minor hockey opportunities coming up because he was one of the youngest in his grade/birth year.

mainly due to the covid year. Teams didn't see him at all his "draft year" so only had a small sample size his first year midget AAA where he was alright but not a standout(might have started the year slow, not sure). Apparently grew a lot physically also which is obviously a major factor with goalies. The 06 birth year there were lots of kids who got over drafted based on a hot start/good situation while also lots of good players who should've been mid rounders who didn't get picked because buried in the depth chart which happens a lot in AAA for first years
