25 of 26 saves. The shots were even, but SKA was the much better team. Sorokin was the best player on the ice, I thought. He completely outplayed Shestyorkin today.

This is great to hear!!! Thanks for the update!!

Those 2 probably love playing against eachother Because of how close they are.

I wonder if they’re aware of the Islanders/Rangers rivalry? Pretty cool

Thinking about coming over for a one year ELC after his KHL season.

Two league sources indicated this week that Ilya Sorokin, the team’s most prized goaltending prospect, has interest in coming to North America to join the Islanders after Sorokin’s KHL season is over.

More likely, it’s that Sorokin turns 24 this summer and thus would be subject to only a one-year entry-level deal if he comes to the NHL for the 2019-20 season. He’d still be a restricted free agent after that but if one season were enough to prove his elite worth, Sorokin would be in for a decent second contract and whatever lies ahead after that.

He has to give notice by January, if he intends to buy out the final year of his contract.
Give me a rule from the KHL Reglement.

No, I do not buy an opinion of NA based journalists, GMs or agents. They know nothing about the KHL.

Probably needs to be specified, that it had to be done by January, 2018, not in the coming January.

Are you sure? I had read that it’s 18 months prior to the end of the contract, but I could be recalling that wrong.

Edit: I just re-read the article. It doesn’t specify which one, but your interpretation seems the more likely one.

I'm referring to the case of Dadonov and Shipachyov in 2016 when they wanted to buy out the last year and couldn't do it. Btw, that notice time is specified by the Russian Hockey Federation, not the KHL itself.

I have just studied the rules.

Yes, there is a notice as you said. The notice time is specified by the Russian Hockey Federation. A player needs to pay a buyout within 2 months. A buyout is 2/3 of the remainder of the contract. A player can not buy-out his deal during play-off time (Febr-April).

There are “rules” in the KHL...?
The KHL transfer rules are more progressive than NHL´s.

NHL club can not pay a cash to European club for a player. See Sorokin.
NHL club can not pay a cash to NHL club for a player. Hello The Great One.

NHLer has to retire if he wants to sign in the KHL very next day. See Kovalchuk. This rule is a nonsense, a retired player coming back to the NHL from retirement a few years later.

NHL taking European prospects while not paying a transfer fee at all. It is called robbery in the 21th Century.

NHL transfer rules are very limited if talking about transfers from NHL to Europe. The NHL isolates itself.

The NHL rules are inspired by socialism or communism, call it as you wish. Regarding the relationship with the rest of the world, we can characterise the NHL as a thief.

KHL club CAN pay a cash for a player to another KHL club.
KHL club CAN pay a cash to European/NHL club for a player. Hi NJD!

KHLer does not have to retire to move to the NHL or European league.

KHL clubs are similar to NHL´s because are not paying a transfer fee to European clubs anymore. Why? Due to the transfer rules created by the NHL. Hi Finns & Swedes, you can thank the NHL for the system. You are losing money, but who cares? Btw, Switzerland is getting a transfer fee from KHL clubs. How clever!

KHL´s transfer rules are very open, there is not as many restrictions for clubs & players as we see in the NHL.

Last but not least.

KHL clubs honour a player´s contract with another club from any league in the world, including the NHL.

NHL clubs honour only player´s contract with KHL & NLA club. NHL club does not honour a player´s contract with SHL, Liiga, DEL, CZ, SVK clubs at all.

So all this about Art Staple looking to generate page views, eh?

NYI fans were already expecting a 2020-2021 date for Sorokin - if he comes at all. I really don't know what Staple's purpose was here. NYI will find someone else from the carousel of UFA bottom-10 starters to pair with Greiss next year.

Staple never reports news if he's not pretty positive about it. I think he fully trusts his sources. I don't trust Eronko for a second after the Kovalchuk debacle

This is what confuses me. Staple isn’t one to just make stuff up. That being said, as far as we know Sorokin hasn’t applied to buyout his KHL contract. What other way would he be coming here? Unless his team is just going to release him and so him a favor. That’s unlikely though.

I don't think he made anything up. He didn't say whether or how Sorokin would come over, only that NYI see him as the answer to their problems. Maybe the other end game (besides getting page views) is simply for LL to try to to chip away at resistance. Lord knows, LL has experience with chipping away at whatever restrictions there were keeping his hands off Russian talent in the past. (Note: By saying this I do not intend to make any commentary on those rules.) In fact, it may be reasonable to suggest that the article may show that LL has failed to change with the times.
