Don't ask Henchy
I don’t know what that means. I also thought this was a thread in the general prospects forum. Very in line with the ”unheralded observation” - that he seemingly doesn’t even has a thread there.

He's definitely the most promising goalie prospect the Avs have had maybe ever. Most games played in the KHL as a 21-y/o and top-13 in both SV% and GAA, despite being on a horrifically bad Metallurg team. Plenty of reason to get excited about him other than the fact that he should be ready for the big leagues after the Avs' contention window.

All I know is that Iiya was born a decade too late. 10 years ago Iron Mike Keenan was still HC.

I was just reading up on the team because I thought they were supposed to be really well coached. Anyways, I can't believe that team went from Paul Maurice to Mike Keenan, talk about a change in voice.

Good point. As a neutral I think the Avs' contention window could be another 5-6 years though. Mackinnon is as serious as it gets conditioning wise and their other stars are young or at least semi-young. There's pretty young good supporting cast too some of which are on great contracts.

No. I was told MacKinnon was going to decline as soon as he signed his new contract - not put up 140 point seasons... so this clearly isn't really happening. I blame AI.

There's an odd coincidence about MacK finding a new gear post contract and Mikko turning into a floating dud. Maybe MacK stole his mojo. Maybe the hockey professor was right all along.

Pull the Dryden and win the Smythe before the Calder!
Man, I love Dryden. I wasn't alive for his first cup and didn't get into hockey until later in life. But I've seen so many games on tape and highlights. Bought The Game years ago and just really found a ton of respect for him. Especially the way he stuck with his education when he felt he was being lowballed. Also came across a diary/book he kept during the Canadian/Soviet series in 72. The man is super intelligent.

Also, not only did he with the Smythe and Cup before the Calder, he won them both before he lost his first regular season game.

Match TV learned that Metallurg goalie Ilya Nabokov will leave for Colorado Avalanche after the end of the season.
Today is the last day of the KHL trade and transfer deadline. Here is what a Match TV source reported:
“SKA really wanted this goalie. But Nabokov himself decided to continue his career in the NHL. The player almost signed a contract with Colorado – or is it a letter of intent, if an official document in the NHL cannot be signed before a certain date. SKA wanted to give up many players for Nabokov, because they consider him to be even more talented than Igor Shesterkin. But after this season, Ilya is leaving for the USA”

Awesome news! Dominate AHL a year or two and welcome to the NHL Ilya!

“ILYA NABOKOV WILL NOT GO TO SKA, AND AFTER THE END OF THE SEASON WILL LEAVE TO COLORADO” - SOURCE

Match TV has learned that Metallurg Magnitogorsk goalkeeper Ilya Nabokov will leave for the Colorado Avalanche after the end of this season.

On Friday, the last day of the deadline for trades and transfers to the KHL, Nabokov will not change teams.

— SKA really wanted to get this goalkeeper. But Nabokov himself decided to continue his career in the NHL. The player has almost signed a contract with Colorado - or this is an agreement of intent, if an official document in the NHL cannot be signed before a certain date.

SKA wanted to give many players for Nabokov, because they consider him even more talented in the future than Igor Shesterkin. But after this season, Ilya is leaving for the USA,” a source close to the situation told Match TV.

Nabokov is 21 years old; last season he won the Gagarin Cup with Metallurg and became the most valuable player of the KHL playoffs. This season, the goalkeeper played 29 matches, in which he won 13 victories with 92.6% of saved shots.

At the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, Nabokov was selected 38th overall in the second round by the Colorado Avalanche. The deadline in the KHL is Friday 23.59 Moscow time.
