The main flaw I think is that he is undersized and also seems to become a bit too nervous if the defense ahead of him isn't playing too good. Still he is just 24, at that age goalies are still developing.Given the history of goaltenders in the Oiler organization it seems like he was given a fairly short leash.
Are there serious flaws in his game or does he still have the ability to be an NHL goalie?
Seems to have entrenched himself as Dynamo's starter and numbers are impressive.
I was really high on him. I actually thought it was him that wanted to leave because didn't want to be in AHL. No source and pure speculation.Given the history of goaltenders in the Oiler organization it seems like he was given a fairly short leash.

He already came and played in Bako during COVID and was just okay. Seems unlikely he tries again anytime soon.Any chance Ilya may come to North America after this season?
Ostap Safin is also doing really well in KHL. Not a popular opinion but KHL seems to be weaker than normal. Having said that, and I could be wrong, I was always a fan of Kono. Curious if he makes his way back as Russian goalies are killing it.Handling the bulk of the goaltending this year for Dynamo Moscow.
In 16 games he is 9-2-2 with a 1.66 GAA and .929 save percentage.
Are those numbers the result of playing on a strong team or is there significant potential in his game?

Me too... Loved the size and skillset (and he's Czech) But he was always hurt, ended up in ECHL, the. Did little in AHL and then was meh in extraliga. Classic mercurial player. I was hoping he'd be like Shlepyshev who I really enjoyed as an Oiler.Ostap was my boy! Really wanted him to work out.
No longer having dustin schwartz give him adviceHandling the bulk of the goaltending this year for Dynamo Moscow.

The oilers don’t develop talwnt that doesn’t develop itself. Our draft/development speaks for itself. Then a huge number the oilers called nothing turn into good players for other teams. Marino is an excellent recent example.Me too... Loved the size and skillset (and he's Czech) But he was always hurt, ended up in ECHL, the. Did little in AHL and then was meh in extraliga. The list goes on for days. Worst drafting org and worst pro scouts and worst goalie coach and worst development. So watch Kono win the Vezina one day.No longer having dustin schwartz give him advice
