The crazy thing is the Avs keep getting these higher profile goalie debuts. I remember watching Primeau's 1st start and it was against them too. GM's are just like ... "Ehhh might as well". lol. It's pretty wild.
I really think there's probably rumbles from agents and stuff and Shest probably feels like he's an NHL goalie, which I think is right, so NY is thinking either he really is and he's ready and he'll show it against the best offense, or we can kind of shut him up for a bit and put a pin in the situation if he gets lit up.
Anyone who has watched Igor play knows he’s ready. This certainly isn’t about shutting him up. It’s about putting out the top goalie in the organization to face the top offense in the league.

He hasn't even played in the NHL yet, and you're crowning him the top goalie in the organization. He's a great prospect, maybe cool your jets a little.
Yet on the Rangers board they think Hank is better than Frederik Andersen and Andrei Vasilevskiy. They were suggesting trading Hank to Toronto or Tampa and I said it wouldn’t happen because of cap reasons plus they already have better starters. Their fans were laughing at me. Weird fan base.

We can wait until he proves himself in the NHL to better know the validity of that assertion, one many Rangers fans believe, but at the same time you also said something equally as hyperbolic. Don't you think it seems hyperbolic to say he needs to stand on his head in his NHL debut in a complete mismatch of a matchup otherwise he doesn't have a claim to being in the NHL right now?
If he gives up a bunch of goals facing the best offense in the league with the worst defense in the league in front of him, why would it put a pin in him? That happens regularly with Georgiyev and Lundqvist. They routinely give up huge goal totals.

as a Rangers fan I obviously want him to do well but If he has a hard time right away it might shut up those people on our board that he's "the best goalie in the organization AINEC". The Rangers d is ABYSMAL and Hank and Georgie should get Purple Hearts for what they have been dealing with all season, they are both starting to break down a little after stealing so many games for the Rangers. I know Shest has the KHL out clause and wants to play now but I really don't want to throw him to the wolves like this.

We’re talking about the premiere goaltending prospect in hockey who has dominated every year at every level since being drafted in 2014. He couldn’t be more NHL-ready and expectations should be sky high.

Igor's success or failure in this game has no bearing on how the Rangers will handle him going forward. It's 1 game and getting shelled/pulled against one of the best offenses in the league, while playing behind the Rangers' defense, isn't going to undo all the positive work he has done in the KHL and AHL. He's more than ready for the NHL. One bad game won't relegate him back to the AHL.
This is definitely a case of you overthinking it and seeing motivations where they don't exist. Igor's European Assignment Clause is much more of a concern than the results of this particular game. I'm sure Igor will spend more time in Hartford simply because we have 3 healthy goalies. If his play is at all a factor in him going back down, it will take more than 1 game to make that assessment.

I also don’t know why some want to already give him a bad performance before the game is played. Colorado is good, but it’s not like he isn’t good either and it’s not as if the Rangers can’t play well against Colorado. The NHL is a very even league. Worse teams beat better teams every day.

He wasn’t to blame for either goal, so while it’s not a good start, it’s not as if the bad start was his doing. The Rangers go through this nearly every game no matter whose in net. First was a tip in front and the other was a breakaway. He settled down and made some nice saves afterward. It must be awful to have given up two in your debut after a few shots because your defensemen hang you out to dry.

He's getting too low in his net. I haven't seen one of his games in a few weeks but he wasn't doing this last I saw. He didn't get beat that way on the 3rd goal, but he was doing it again right before, he's dripping like 3-4 inches lower than he should be when he drops and at 6'1 it's creating way too much space up high.
He's made some good saves, and the third goal wasn't his fault either.

Thought he played good, but not great. Deserves a second start in the next little while in my opinion.

I was happy with his play. Anything over .900 in a first start isn’t bad, especially considering it’s against a very good team. He wasn’t at fault for any of the goals, he faced more shots than the other goalie, had a better SV% and registered a win. He also didn’t lose it after the Avs scored two quick goals to start the game. A lesser goalie might’ve gotten themselves pulled with a few bad goals to follow up the first two.
Finished strong. to me sometimes winning a game like he did tonight vs getting an easy shutout shows me more. The mental aspect of goaltending is huge and had a terrific third period protecting a lead against one of the best offensive teams in the league. We all knew the Avs were gonna come out strong after getting shutout last night
A win is a win is a win. You can't blame Shesterkin in any of three, Rangers defense played terrible in all those cases. Look at that 3rd goal for example, not one, but two Avs stayed open within 3 metres of the goals.

I mean the 2nd goal is a little on him. It was a giveaway that led to a breakaway but that was a saveable breakaway goal.
Yeah, MacKinnon's a scrub, easy save for a veteran like Shesty.

The only goal he had a chance on was a MacKinnon breakaway....
The first goal the puck was traveling along the ice and then deflected s couple feet in the air right in front of the net. The 3rd goal was a cross ice pass right in front of the crease to a wide open avalanche player.
Hes very athletic and quick. Fun goalie to watch.
