Speculation: Future Roster/Trade Discussion

Agreed, I'd love Larkin here. He's scored 30 goals each of the past 4 seasons, without the amount of talent that we have here. Plus he's great defensively as well. I love Luosty, but if you can make an upgrade like that, you do it. I think Zito will push hard to get it done.

9th+Luosty+Samoskevich+#41

That would be pretty hard for Minny to beat.
Far too much, guy has never broken 80 points. There is no chance they trade him within the division.

Remind me again why we're supposed to get all horny for a 30-year old 70 point player who hasn't accomplished much of anything except lead the Wings to mediocrity? One that would cost us a lot of trade assets and not address any of our actual needs? For context, Reinhart is a much better player getting paid less than Larkin.

We already have one of the deepest forward groups in the league. We need goaltending, some offensive talent on defense, and some younger forwards in their 20's on cheap contracts. Probably need to inject some more youth in general, need fresh legs to keep us going. Larkin doesn't solve anything for us.

we are not.. he isn't needed here.

They'll trade him for the best return imo. And no, it's not too much for an elite defensive player who scores 30 every season.
Having 47% 5v5 on ice goal share doesn't signal elite defensive player and his expected goal share was the same. This means that the result reflected his play.

As a comparison Barkov during 24-25 regular season had 60% 5v5 on ice goal share.

How did Reinhart look when he was in Buffalo?

Larkin would give us either the best 3rd line in the league or a top 5 second line. The Last Cup was "a breeze" because our third line was just better and that creates mismatches.

In any case, after how the last season went, I don't see how we can "rest on our laurels" and assume everything will be hunky-dory after we wasted a year due to injury. Adding a top 20-30 C helps with injury mitigation which is, quite frankly, the second biggest threat to this team.

At 5v5 in Buffalo, Reinhart's goal share was 46% and now it's 53.4%. From bad to Selke votes.

Yeah larkin would be a great add but i see him as a brady tkachuk type luxury.

Until we figure out goalie id rather use the 1st and cap space there then see what else

15mil to sign two goalies, samo and 2-4 bottom 6 guys/dmen, could maaaybe have enough room if we go with the trade (wed have to send samo, luostar etc) but itll be tight

Who's gonna play net? Barkov?
I don't think Larkin scores 30 on the 3rd line.

Plus he would possibly be moved to the wing. How does he adjust? How long would it take? I dont want Benny or Lundy on the wing.

Some want change for the sake of change.

Swaggy does what he does with out PP1 time too.

Its not a clear enough upgrade for me to trade guys we have seen win for maybes.

I could 100% be wrong, but that's just how I feel currently. If they get him I will hope for the best.

So many different plays for Zito.

This will be a fun draft and free agency either way.

Babcock coaching the Oilers

Some big names on the move in trades

The Atlantic will remain the strongest division in the league

I need to start making new BOOM memes

I think he'd score more than that. He's the 20-ish best centre in the league and people on here are wondering if he's an upgrade over Luo. The homerism is ludicrous.

And there would be plenty of cap space. If Larkin is traded for Luo and picks, we'd still have 8.5M for 2 goalies and Samo, that's plenty (and that's with Arod or Samo on the 4th).

That's not a ton of cap space to be honest. I get Erod or Boqvist could be moved but there's bigger issues than the forwards IMO.

Just doesn't seem likely that Yzerman would "help" Florida and trade Larkin in division.
We've become THE destination for players but this one doesn't feel right to me.

Not sure who's arguing/debating Luostarinen and Larkin, im seeing Lundell and Larkin debates though.

I’m pretty shocked at how against people are to acquiring larkin. He’s surpassed 30+ goals in 5 straight seasons and 6 of the last 8. Of course he’s not a necessity, but that’s not the point. If you have a chance to get a guy like that, you try.

We’re insanely fortunate to be where we are, we’re crazy fortunate when we retained all of bennett, Ekblad, and Marchand, we’re insanely fortunate to have nearly every big piece locked into a static dollar figure while the cap continues to increase every year, giving us more and more ammo each season to pile on the depth, and we’re crazy fortunate that guys like him put us on his short list of 3 teams. These windows aren’t open forever and we’ve seen with Buffalo, Detroit, and of course us as panthers fans know how long it can take to become a viable competitor.

He’s 29 not 49 and locked in for 5 more years. Barkov and tkachuk aren’t due for new contracts for another 4 years so the window is widest during that time. Theres no way we get him for luostarinen, the 9th overall, Samo and a 2nd. If we did, that’d be hysterical

The cap works no doubt but who plays out of position?

Dylan, Sam or Anton? This isnt simply a plug and play scenario. None are proven NHL wingers.

Why not simply upgrade on the wing? I would prefer the other Tkachuk if we were going to add up front.
