Future of the team is incredibly bleak

Either way to refer to it as 'incredibly' bleak is a bit much.

It didn't need the incredibly.

Man I was f***ing pissed at the leafs when this thread was made

Then they played amazing for 8 games in the playoffs and I forgot the LT reality of this team

Now last 3 games and I'm sad how things unfolded in the past, how things are unfolding vs Panthers and how bleak our prospect + draft pick pool is for the future

Not feeling too bleak. Team has the chance to prune some of the rottenness and hopefully utilize the cap space. Rielly might be the only really bad contact by next year and hopefully he rebounds a bit. Nylander is fine. Matthews is one year past a 69 goal and another year past an mvp. He will rebound; his regular season was awful as well, somethings wrong.

Matthews is a joke and won't lead a team to anything.

How about now

Series isn't over, and even if it does end Friday, the defense is set going forward for at least 3 years.

For as much as I've HATED Woll in this series I don't think he's a bad goalie.

The goaltending is set.

They have almost 30 million in cap space rework the forwards and that's without trades

I don't see the doom and gloom you do

Based on what's available in free agency, there's about a 90% chance the result is worse. Keep in mind that in terms of forwards, we are releasing the #1 and #3 ranked free agents. And #6 is a 37-year-old Brad Marchand, who may or may not have anything left in the tank after this year.

Hiring shanahan who then hired dubas was the two biggest mistakes in the history of this franchise, and that’s including the Harold Ballard years.

I truly hope that MLSE uses the sledgehammer approach this offseason.
Sick and tired of the constant use of a scalpel when it comes to the roster. The core needs to be dismantled. We are going nowhere near a Cup with this iteration of the core.

Get rid of MM.
Figure out playoff AM34 once and for all. Is a recurring injury to blame or is he just not capable of more?
Resign Tavares IF a reasonable AAV can be signed (around half his current cap hit).
Keep Rielly.
Keep Willy.

To be blunt, except for Willy, i wouldn´t mind trading away the core IF the price was right.
I know we are not in a rebuild mode, but to still believe, after all these years, that these 5 guys can get the job done is lunacy. A fool´s errand.

Unless they get rid of at least 2 of the toxic core the future is gloomy

Certainly not over yet, there's a game on Friday. Too bad you won't be watching 😢

It looks like you're more interested in trying to win internet arguments anyway.

If they do lose game 6, game 7 or further on down the line I'm positive you'll be the first one in here crowing "wHaT AbOuT now??"

I'm excited I hope they can get rid of Matthew's Marner and Riley and restock the shelves
