Future of the team is incredibly bleak

They would not make more if they won, there are many factors in p & l.
I say we because I have been invested, emotionally, and financially since 1955.

And why do you bother to look at a web page about a team you have no investment in.
If you don't understand, I feel sorry for you.
If you are just being an a??, fo

More accurately, the more rounds they play, the more money they make.. win or lose the Cup, if they get there, they make more by playing more home games.

Our seats are 2nd last row.
Our bill for the playoffs this year (4 rounds, 4 games each round) was over 12,500.
Bill for next season came the same day, 41 games just over 10, 500.

They want to play as many home playoff games as possible. Absurd to think otherwise.

In general it makes sense, but many issues when you are over the top already. If the board #1 goal is shareholder value, then the Leaf Pres is reviewed and rated on $$ and financial goals, nit winning the cup. They are not necessarily all in on winning. Protecting what you have is more important sometimes. Like the Jay's, renovating was more important than winning.
Just saying, they are financially at the top of the heep, financially. They are a corporation, not a sole owner. Corporations are less passionate than individuals, they run different.

I'm not sure how you could make less sense.

Maybe try and read what I posted again... I literally said more home games = more money. Not winning the cup.

Rated on $$ and Financial Goals, is what I said.

But it's the Leafs so honestly I'd expect all of the core back, Marner 13, Tavares 7.5, Knies 8.5 and repeat the insanity.
I tend to expect exactly that unfortunately. That’ll be it for me.
It’s funny that as a business owner I look at what they have going on and from that perspective they get 2 thumbs up. Looking through the eyes of a sports fan we’re clearly on a different page.

Leafs clinch playoff spot for ninth consecutive season

Doesnt get any better than that
What more can I ask for

Do something when you get there...

But yes, we've had a pretty good team, and despite the lack of success in the playoffs, it's a hell of a lot better than being a Buffalo fan. We should appreciate the good as well.

We all will.... Doesn't change we have no draft picks, basically no prospects, so how are we going to improve the team?

Now throw in potentially losing Marner for free
Where does this come from? Is this another therapeutic moment or is self-hating just a common part of Leaf Fandom.

It drives me crazy that people on hockey forums pretend to "know things". We have no idea how our prospects will shake out. I think that hockey fans just use a calculator to evaluate prospects pools: "Chicago has drafted in the 1st round for 9 years straight. Therefore, they are going to be a dynasty in 4 years. Toronto missed drafting in the 1st round for 3 years. Therefore, Toronto are going to miss the playoffs for several years.

Potential is not definitive. Treliving will have to pivot if MM and JT won't sign. So be it. Much of this team is intact for quite a few years.

Since after the 2016 draft we have
Knies
Robertson
Holmberg
That we have drafted On our current team.
That’s what trading away picks and prospects for the past 8 years has accomplished. With no 1sts for a couple of more years I doubt it gets better anytime soon.

That’s a fantastic deal - - if you’re ever looking to sell the rights, I’d definitely take them over from you.

I'm going to put Woll on the team too.

Anyway, TOR has quite a few players signed until 2028. You're right. They won't be better, but the thread theme is: "bleak". They won't be bleak. It's possible that TOR continues to make the playoffs until 2028.

I agree with that last bit, but what is also absurd is the costs of those playoff tickets. Damn.

The leafs haven’t earned any benefit of the doubt. Great that they are winning but I don’t think many would be shocked if they lose in the first round. I hope we don’t go through that again.

I have to admire the unjustified pessimism. This team is nothing like prior Leafs teams.

You know what else other teams had?

Cowardly Keefe as the head coach.

A "man", and I use that term EXTREMELY loosely, because he's not one.

A "man" that would call out his players and then walk back what he said the next day because he's a fake tough guy and doesn't have the guts to stand by what he says.

Talent can only take you so far.

If the coach is gutless the team won't win.

Berube is a different beast.

Yeah, they're scoring a lot less.

The forwards are basically the same as last year. Sub out Bertuzzi, Gregor and Dewar from game 7 and put in Laughton, a hopefully-not-healthy-scratched Robertson and a healthy McMann (assuming nobody else gets injured, and well, Matthews clearly already is and just playing through it).

We've been told this revamped D core with limited puck moving ability is going to win more close games in the playoffs. A healthy Stolarz is certainly an upgrade over playoff Samsonov so let's hope he doesn't tweak anything chasing for the division title.

Unjustified?

I'm struggling to think of something more justified....

We are all Leafs fans. We all desperately want them to win and it certainly isn't impossible. And yes they have made some solid changes this year.

But does this team still rely on the same core players that haven't been able to get the job done? And not like a, they're getting closer and closer type way, like a not even remotely close with no progress kind of way?

I admire the optimism. If anything, that's the historically unjustifiable attitude.

we have a great core, and for the first time in ages goaltending. Confident they will lock up Marner, and get Tavares on a reasonable deal.
Knies and McMann have great potential even above what they are doing.
All we need to shore up in the future is another 3rd pairing right side D, so we can put OEL back on his natural left and fire Benoit into the sun.
We do have some talent coming in Cowan.
I am somewhat hopeful.

Agree 100% - - Bozo The Keefe was a cowardly blob and also a hopelessly incompetent hockey coach.

He’ll never call out his star players because he’s terrified they might revolt and cost him his job. So he targets bottom of the roster guys instead.

The same thing is happening in New Jersey, look at how he went after Jon Kovacevic.

Can’t wait to watch Bozo The Keefe continue his legacy of first round failures again this year with New Jersey.
