Future of the team is incredibly bleak

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

You think the Sabres did a "proper rebuild?"

What a bizarre take.

Why you mention the Sabres as an example of a proper rebuild and then spend a paragraph criticizing the rebuild that the Sabres did?
We have been doing a proper rebuild since 1967...something we need to get much better at. Maybe since we make do much money with little effort, success on the ice may not be do important.
Seems to me that most of the winning teams are owned by individuals who are passionate, not the same as corporste spread sheets.

Dubas had a chance to do a retool when some of these guys were tradable but chose not to. Treliving had the opportunity to make meaningful changes but as a new GM in his first year it would have been impossible to leverage Marner in a trade. His hands were tied.
This model is simply not working. We can either be satisfied with losing first round every dam year while we give more and more of the cap to these 4 or we can try it improve on the core.

The useless coach and the hopeless GM are what didn’t work.

If the Leafs had ANYONE other than Bozo the Keefe and Dumbass for the past five years, I can guarantee they would have won more than just one playoff series.

Do you honestly think Jon Cooper or Paul Maurice couldn’t have taken this team to at least the conference finals?

Hard to say. So far 3 coaches have tried to make this core into winners with no luck. In my opinion the common denominator is Shanny in that regard

According to your list, Tampa also has 8 draft.

Yeah you're right it's 8 for Tampa, just click on wrong number

But why not contrast our efforts with a comparable team that's been a consistent playoff team for awhile, like a Carolina? It is not difficult to make the Leafs look dumb, I'm not sure why you're so insistent on bringing up Yzerman when again, the team situations are very different. It is a lot easier to not waste assets when you're running a lottery team. Your work might be more appreciated in the Detroit downfall thread on the main board where you'll find plenty that disagree with this kind of praise.

player in Carolina drafted by the team

7 player drafted by the in actual line, it'a actually less than Toronto or Tampa who spend years after years pick and prospect to help the team now vs a team who kept a lot of pick during year.

The fact Carolina kept so much pick, did that made Carolina a better team overal... they had succes in playoff ... playing against metro division... actually since they made playoff under brind'amour, they won only 24% of playoff game vs any atlantic team... vs tampa and florida combined, they are 2-16 in playoff

Again i think some people overrating impact of having a lot of pick / prospect when your goal is to win now

I am not sure Tre's hands were tied. He could have not re-upped Nylander and Matthews, had a chance to trade Marner once they got punted from the playoffs. Didn't need to resign Kamph or Domi.

The upgrades on D and in net give me hope, but I think I agree with you. Seems like Shanny is the one going to bat for the core
