Based on their 1st rounder last year its hard to say which of these traits the Sens scouts would value most

Clearly not Best Skater, Best Hockey Sense, Best Athlete ... I would venture a guess that none of the above tipped the scales.

They did pick the #2 player on Pronman's Best Athlete list from last year.

Pronman was crazy high on him ... I did not realize that. and I find it laughable given info coming out of the combine

He was called the least athletic at the combine, and was 33rd out of 35 at the on ice testing at the top prospects game. Teams were worried about his athleticism, if Pronman had him as the 2nd best athlete he’s even more clueless with his evaluations that previously thought.

Eh, I can at least understand that. Size and skating ability, seems to be a good athlete.

He just doesn’t have the hockey skills to go with it yet

The playoffs are kinda showing the value in depth guys who fit the mold of "big man, skate fast, smash other man."

Bonus if they can make a pass or score goals.

Not really what you wanna look at getting with your 1st rounder, even if it is a late one, but I wonder what's there in the 2nd+ rounds for us that fits.

I got this draft guide and will likely get the black book when it comes out. Lots of good NHL scout comments included .. which I like to find in these things.

Wouldn't surprise me either and he's a good player so I wouldn't be too upset.

I know we won't go for him but I'm warming up to the idea of Cullen Potter. We need more speed and he's one of the, if not THE, best skaters in this draft.

Ya I also like Potter’s speed.

I’m not sure if he will available or the odds in general, but unless something crazy happens, he’s the guy I want OTT to draft, and I don’t see any problem with him running it on the wing, but I’d be drafting him to play up the middle.

Vancouver media says they have him ranked very high, so if they don’t trade the pick, there’s probably a good chance he goes to them.

It’s unlikely Cootes makes it to 21.

He’s sitting with even odds at pick 17.5 now, and I’d imagine that will shift to the under over the next 2 weeks pretty heavily.

As mentioned in this thread, there is a lot of value in the playoffs for a player with size and plays a physical game. Not sure if it is a fair comparison or not but if Eliasson can eventually become a player like Niko Mikkola of the Panthers, that would be huge (pun intended).

Absolutely, if he becomes an NHLer at all I’d consider it better than I expected.

If he becomes a Mikkola I would be extremely pleased.

Can’t teach size and tenacity, and that’s what he is in spades.

It’s everything else, offensively and defensively, that’s been lacking thus far in the year I’ve seen him.

He’s a very young guy, so here’s hoping we see a different guy in Barrie (or wherever he ends up) this year

Thanks to the previous regime's involvement in failing to accurately verify the status of Evgenii Dadonov's modified no-trade clause and list of teams that he could not be moved to, the Ottawa Senators were punished by the league - having to forfeit a first-round selection by the 2026 NHL Draft.

In consideration of how the Senators ran their first draft with general manager Steve Staios at the helm, Robinson will be keen to watch if one trend continues for the organization.
"I think the obvious takeaway was a focus on size over skill," said Robinson while reflecting on last year's picks. "(Carter) Yakemchuk over (Zayne) Parekh and (Zeev) Buium. (Gabriel) Eliasson over Cole Hutson, Andrew Basha, Harrison Brunicke, and Ryder Ritchie.

"Not to say that Yak doesn't have skill, but the projection clearly left upside on the table and tenfold with Eliasson. I did love the Blake Montgomery selection, though. As far as drawing parallels to this year's class, we'll have to see if those decisions are replicated before assuming it's a mandate and not just a result of how the cookie crumbled in 2024."

From Chris' list close to 18-24 I would be fine with any of them with a RD over LD preference the forwards all belong in that range or close to it
