Anyone got a defenseman that is currently doing solid work on your bottom pair? A guy who you think could actually be a reliable top 4 guy but just isn't getting the minutes, or isn't quite there yet?

Calen Addison seems likely to be available this summer. He’s a perfect candidate to slide into a rebuilding team’s Top 4 and run the PP

Go sign ryan Graves. He’s your man.

We talk about doing that on the CBJ board.

The Jackets have some guys that could be available to make room for Jiricek and in case we sign a good defensive left D to replace Gavrikov. Bean, maybe one of Boqvist or Peeke, Berni, Blanks, Bjork. The problem with the Jackets D is that other than Werenski, all the guys are fringe top 4 D.

Addison is a specialist. 3rd pairing/PP guy. He's just a rookie, so there is room for improvement, but I don't think he can be described as "solid".

Soucy is a good example of what the OP is asking for.

The Kings have Walker and Durzi but the guy who could possibly be had for a price is Tobias Bjornfot.
This kid has been squeezed out of the lineup because of all the Dmen the Kings have but he is intriguing. He can move the puck up ice quickly when transitioning to O but his bread and butter is his defense. He could be more physical but his skating is bitterly smooth and his more of a smotherer than a guy that will stand you up… though he can do that to when he kids his physicality up.

everything above 4m will make him unaffordable for the devils. they probably would love to hang onto him for 1 or 2 seasons (until luke is fully ready), but graves will look for more term and most likely higher aav.

with both severson and graves most likely gone, the devils will also be looking for this exact type of player. a cost controlled, defensively stable d-man with size, who can line up against the best opponents. slavin would be fitting. let's find out if carolina wants to trade him for a bag pucks. :badidea:

Erik Brannstrom has actually been shockingly good defensively this year. Every player that plays with him is better. Not the offensive superstar that we all thought he would become (I miss you Mark Stone), but he has been so underrated this year. Issue is Sanderson, Chabot, and Chychrun are all lefties. Branny has looked great on the right side, but will have a hard time playing ahead of Sandy/Chabby/Chcyh/Zub unless there's an injury. Kleven also in the equation now.

Although I don't want them to move him, I think they will this summer due to the amount of LD we have. But he has to have been one of the better 3rd pairing D this season and is still only 23. I genuinely think he'll be a long-term Top 4 D somewhere, just not in Ottawa.

Carson soucy fits your description
Is he good defensively ? Devils will need a stop gap RHD as we probably won’t be able to keep Graves and Severson. Crappy thing is , we only need a placeholder until Nemec is ready . It will be too risky relying on Luke Hughes , Bahl , and Nemec all at once in the lineup.
So , the Devils need at least one defensively sound D prefer RHD.
But … woild have to be a guy with 1/2 years left on his contract or a UFA willing to sign for only 1/2 years ( which usually means that player is unproven or on the decline in his career )
Maybe we will sign Graves , but id say it’s very likely he signs for more $ and length than what Devils could offer.
Only UFA’s that I think might work is Gudas and Kulikov? Ant other guys you can think of ?

Walker is playing left, Durzi right.
If defense is the concern i would pick Walker since Durzi is an offensive dynamo

Asking price would be 2 2nd i guess

May have worded it poorly on my part?
So 2 2nds for both the players, what about just Walker then?
Offense isn't the need as much as defensive IQ/ability in our top 6 D.
