I saw this segment on HNIC just now. When the show was consistently in Vegas, there wasn’t anything wrong with it. The problem with it was that brain dead people put on a brain dead show with brain dead guest presenters and musical guests.

The other thing was that the fans really never got to interact with the nominees.

After attending NHL Award media availabilities the attending media never understood that the players and coaches aren’t holding their cards close to their chest and are in vacation mode as are the media…kind of (my best memory is seeing Bob McKenzie show up to media day in shorts and flip flops). I always wanted to ask all the players there tips for kids who want to be pro hockey players and things like that.

Chose talented people to put on the shows and not people who will half ass it. Also put $$$ into it as well for guests.

Simply put, put the show in Canadian location, not Vegas where we care more about putting a good quality show. I think it has to do with the late finish and not enough time between the Cup celebration and the NHL award show. It felt rushed. Have it finish on May then having a NHL award show two-three weeks between the final game and the award show, it would allow us to see our fasvorite star players again for one final time before the summer. If it's two-three days between the final and the celebration, it is like we don't really miss them too much and would not care for it and the rating suffers.

i don't hate the awards but you could easily have the ceremony take place 1 hour before the draft. plus it would be neat having the newly drafted players have the opportunity to meet some of the current stars.

Bettman just isn't interested in doing anything good or creative.

Can’t help but think of think of the presenters who announced Martin St Louis as the city in Missouri

They announced the award winners during the 2013 playoffs perfectly imo

NHL is just realizing how little the award show in general means.

Also, a few years ago I read a report on line on how expensive it was getting. Nearly all the non-hockey famous people who attended the show were paid to be there. I think it was the New York Times that had an article on it years ago where they did not just talk about the NHL but all sport leagues paying celebs and influencers $$$ to either attend their events or talk about their events and how it was getting expensive.

There’s a reason for doing that, though. The NHL has a visibility problem and influencers are by definition paid to bring eyeballs to a product. If they don’t have the money to get it done, they’ll just fall farther behind.

The calendar is too condensed with the draft and July 1. They pushed the season back a week and never accounted for it in the off-season.

That said, the Awards show was always skippable. It makes more sense what they're going to do if they want visibility on the winners. Have them in their markets, let the home fans be a part of it.
