Tennis: French Open 2025

This is the most changing in the guard match in regards to Djokovic in recent memory, Sinner looks like a younger Djokovic on some of these shots and the return game. Seems like we're gonna get our wish of Sinner v Carlos in a grand slam final.

Sinner takes the breaker for a straight set win, well-earned. I believe we have #1 and #2 in both men's and women's finals.

Sinner in 5

Sabalenka in 2
I can see Sinner winning in 3 sets, maybe even 4, but if it goes 5 I like Carlos' chances. I think there is still one tiny question mark about Sinner and I think that question has to do with endurance. Could be wrong but I would like to see the theory tested.

Alcaraz in 4
Sabalenka in 3

As expected, sounds like this might be the end of Novak at RG. He can take on Carlos (Olympics, AO) but Sinner is just a terrible match-up at this stage for him.

Can't wait for the final.

It sounds like this is his last year. To paraphrase a Paul Bowles line from The Sheltering Sky, "He knows, he just doesn't yet know that he knows." I mean, if all that matters to him in tennis is chasing GSs, the evidence is pretty clear that now that he is not ranked #1 or #2, he will always risk having to face both Sinner and Alcaraz to get to the title. The high likelihood of that being a futile chase, I can't see him wanting to continue past this year. Get away from the game before your body really gets screwed up. Run for Prime Minister of Serbia or teach your kids drop volleys.

Yeah, Novak is 100% calling it quits after this year. He knows he can't beat Sinner on the hard courts for #25 or even clay to get to a final and he isn't beating Alcaraz in a final at Wimbledon. He's out of options for it.

Thing is, he beats 99% of the tour today but he was matched up with one of the two cyborgs on tour. Those two cyborgs have this sport in a chokehold and he fully understands that.

I 100% have to see the guy at the US Open this year, fingers crossed he's healthy enough to play here come late August/September. If he somehow plays in D.C in a few weeks, maybe take a train down for that as well lol

The tourney is all about today. Emotionally, Saby needed the first set. It's theoretically possible for Coco to come back, but unless Saby falls apart emotionally, it's unlikely.

Sabalenka was like a cat with nine lives in that set. She blew a two-break 4-1, 40-love lead, failed to serve out the set twice, fell behind in the breaker, and finally won it with some gutsy play.

Coco surprised me. I'm unsure of the quality of Saby's play in the second set. Anything can happen now. I call it 50/50.

Gauff is a lot more clutch in third set deciders than Sabalenka (17-6 compared to 17-17).

The third set was a question of which player would blink first and it was Sabalenka. Coco kept her double faults and forehand errors pretty much in check, at least significantly better than Aryna did, and she deserved to lift the trophy as she was clearly the better player on the day.

Kind of shocked, I thought Sabalenka would hit Coco off the court but, as usual, when Sabalenka loses (like prime Serena), it's because she made too many unforced errors. Credit to Coco as well, she got more aggressive in the 3rd and it paid off.

Can't wait for the Sinneraz final, first one in a slam and long overdue. As an Alcaraz fan, I usually have the utmost confidence in him in a final but the level Sinner is playing at is scary and makes me think that Sinner is due to beat Alcaraz after 4 straight losses. If he can conquer Alcaraz on clay there's really no limit to how high Sinner's ceiling is because he's the undisputing Hard Court King and his game is tailor made for grass so you'd think at some point that he'll win a few Wimbledons.
