Back to back 30+ goal seasons. Brings a playstyle we could desperately use in the top 6. I would have at least tried to match it.

Would have loved adding Chyhrun at a reasonable price.
Not entirely sure what you mean, but he is not very physical and pretty slow. So not a forechecker. And he is 32 already. Dont think he has many 30 goal seasons in him. And I like the player, wanted him at the last tdl. But not for 4 more yrs for that noney when we have our young guys to take care of.

My main thing that I’m wondering is I feel like Yzerman had to have told Patrick Kane something in order for him to re-sign with us.

Whether it was, he was going to get a couple nice pieces via free agency or via the trade route. I don’t feel like Kane would’ve signed here if we didn’t do something pretty big in order for us to push for the playoffs.

I’m still holding out hope for a couple of big to semi big trades.

I mean, yes. But it's incumbent on him working the phones. This does call into question the wisdom of the Walman salary dump if you were going to turn your nose up at every contract out there.
The Walman thing was more than just a salary dump though. They wanted him off the team and were willing to pay the 2nd to make that happen. They didn't need to dump the salary, they needed to dump the player.

Huh? No I just want consistency. If you stand pat during FA, you’re basically implying you’re gonna fill the all the holes on the roster with kids, therefore admitting it’s another rebuilding year and no plans to make the playoffs. But then at the same time, why bother signing Kane then? If we don’t plan to make the playoffs, should have just let him walk and aim for a high pick with the kids playing. Hard to see what Steve is trying to do here.
While I disagree with most of what you say. This I can agree with.

I have to think that Yzerman told Kane that we would sign a couple of big pieces or trade for some big pieces. I don’t see why Kane would sign otherwise.

I firmly believe in the next couple weeks that we will have acquired some pretty large pieces for our playoff push next year.

Projected to get paid double what Detroit gave him. Don't know how reliable their numbers are though.

Probably get a 1st for Kane at the deadline.

but our D is worse now than it was last year...

Justin Holl and Petry are on our roster lol...surely thats how we'll keep the puck out of our net??

walman played himself off the team last year and Ghost was a turnstyle. And if we really want Ghost, he's still on the market. You want to focus on Petry and Holl, but I think we are getting an upgrade over the two who left with Ed, and hopefully Albert.

Remember this post because Gus can be a complete shit show. Pretty volatile game.
Thanks for your input, but he's not going to play the big minutes or tough defensive assignments. He'll likely just be a sheltered PP specialist like Gostisbehere was for us last season.
