Staal (maybe a little retained)
Robin Kovacs
4th or 5th Rounder

For Kovalchuk

Staal wouldn't have to move far, Kovacs is a mid level prospect, and a pick to take on Staal.

That is very bad. The team is very good everywhere else. This will hold them back. This is why they need to get aggressive and add a center.

I mean, assuming that this is the roster they are bringing to the regular season, and also assuming none of the rookies have some incredible camp, it will really depend on the year that Hayes/Miller and Zibby have. If all 3 of them are average or worse, yeah, it could be pretty bad.

average at center isn't getting you anywhere and we are also going from bottom of the barrel on defense to a really good defense

No this is what leads to panic moves that end up being a major loss for the team in the long run.

I think too many people are assuming that Hayes can't improve. He's not a relic and hes shown that he can be pretty dominant in spurts. I agree that the odd of him succeeding are stacked against him, but I'm not ready to pencil him in as a "3C and nothing more" just yet. I'd rather let him prove that he can't handle it before assuming that he can't and moving the few assets we have.


Nashville just made it to the finals with basically just Johansen (who subsequently got hurt) down the middle and could have easily won if they didn't get boned by the refs. Depth everywhere>>>>Depth down the middle.

While simultaneously going from the bottom of the barrel on D to one of the best (at least on paper so far), improving prospects pool and having not played two cards yet from excess on a wing and D.

there is a good chance he didn't have many options. take a 1 year deal hoping to put up decent numbers on a bad team and hope that he can get more $$ next year
