Depends how they view Galchenyuk and Drouin (thought they were trying him there). But the keep things simple, the Rangers have a bottom 5 center group in the league for sure.

That is very bad. The team is very good everywhere else. This will hold them back. This is why they need to get aggressive and add a center.

I guess I fail to see how three 25 or under and 50 pt (during a full season) players would be considered bottom 5.

IF, and a big IF, DD signs here, he's taking Lindberg's spot on the 4th line, and in case of injury can be moved up...

While simultaneously going from the bottom of the barrel on D to one of the best (at least on paper so far), improving prospects pool and having not played two cards yet from excess on a wing and D.

I agree : pretty amazing!

Truth! However, having centers in the NHL is kinda important.

No this is what leads to panic moves that end up being a major loss for the team in the long run.

I think too many people are assuming that Hayes can't improve. He's not a relic and hes shown that he can be pretty dominant in spurts. I agree that the odd of him succeeding are stacked against him, but I'm not ready to pencil him in as a "3C and nothing more" just yet. I'd rather let him prove that he can't handle it before assuming that he can't and moving the few assets we have.

Nashville just made it to the finals with basically just Johansen (who subsequently got hurt) down the middle and could have easily won if they didn't get boned by the refs. Depth everywhere>>>>Depth down the middle.

It's not a panic move. It's incompetence. They lost two centers and replaced zero. It doesn't add up. Nashville got where the did because they overachieved with a hot goalie. They also have a better coach.

Is Zibanejad a 1C? Hayes is unproven in top 6. Miller is unproven as a center and they technically done even have a 4th line center yet. It's bad center depth, and worse when compared to others.

It's amazing to me that people here wanted Yakupov. He probably went to the Avs because his only other option was the KHL. How many teams does a guy have to not succeed with before our fan base doesn't want to give him a shot?

And the same fans are likely the ones that hated Sather's "reclamation projects" when we'd bring in the Erik Christensen and Wojtek Wolski's of the world.

Yes getting aggressive and overpaying for a player you may not even need is the very definition of panic. What do you want them to do? Meet Sakic's asking price for Duchene?

Nashville got where they did because they were that good, I won't argue that Rinne got hot for 3 rounds...

We can say the same thing for Pittsburgh though, they don't get out of round 2 if not for hot goaltending. Guess what? It matters. Center depth is so overrated though, do you think the Pens would be worse if Malkin and Crosby played on the wing?

No. It was a fine move. Not replacing him and/or Lindberg is incompetent.

Good thing we still have plenty of time to make moves and signings.

God forbid we don't make all of our trades and signings on the first day of free agency.

No, their top 2 players just happen to be centers.

It's kind of unbelievable that we didn't try harder to protect Lindberg. Not that he's the be all end all, but we'd be in a much safer position right now if he had not lost him in the ED. Zib is a solid 2C, Hayes is a solid 3C, Lindberg is a very solid 4C. Shift them all up one line, and play Nieves, not so bad.

I think upper management really views Andersson as a legitimate, NHL ready guy to fill the 3rd or 4th line this year.

I'm also willing to guess they were involved in talks with some of the centers on the market like Bonino and Boyle but lost out. Probably weren't willing to pay them what they got elsewhere.

I wonder if we'll see Dominic Moore come back for a year, and possibly Buch/Miller move back to center (not that I want any of this).

I also think upper management views Andersson more NHL ready for the 3rd or 4th line than most think.

From everything I've heard and read, Nieves has been pretty underwhelming in Hartford so far.

He wasn't underwhelming. He played just fine for a rookie. His problem was that he couldn't stay healthy and continues to be plagued by head injuries.

Moore signed in Toronto.

I also cringe every time I see someone list Andersson as a 4th line possibility for next year. Do you want to ruin his development?

Top 9 if he deems himself worthy, SHL for another year if he doesn't.

We still don't know if Kevin Klein is retiring--let's say the reason he hasn't yet is because he's made some progress and he could return next year. That leaves us with an excess of d-men on the NHL roster, one's gotta go. Shatty, McD, Skjei, Smith, Holden, Klein, Staal, DeAngelo, Kampfer, not to mention the guys they signed out of college who may be closer to be capable to fill-in should any of the top 6 guys get hurt than we know.

Holden should be able to yield us a 4th line C at the very least. He was solid for a majority of the year before the wheels fell off down the stretch/in the playoffs. Or we could flip DeAngelo, as unlikely as I think that is.

Stay far away from Desharnais, he was Montreal's Tanner Glass. Sucking the life out of his linemates.

With AV you will see him on the top line, as was the same with Therrien.

Lindberg is still unsigned, I would love to see the Rangers reacquire him. Vegas is not getting good value on trades and they'll be a dumpster fire for years. Hopefully Oscar wants no part of that. Kick the tires at least.

I don't think the 4th line in the modern day NHL is a death sentence for a rookie's development like it might've been when there were tough guys on every team. If our 4th line is Puempel-Andersson-Fast it's not the same as if it were something like Glass-Andersson-Mashinter.

I don't think it's ideal or the best route, but I don't think it'd ruin him or hurt his development as so many seem to think, especially if they work him into special teams play on top of those minutes.
