So is toughness the problem or lack or skill?

I'm sure the rangers could bench Nash and put Bickel on the top line. Much more toughness, no?

But it is the problem. Teams that get away with no playing gritty hockey have top 3 offensive skill in the league. We don't and we don't any time soon.

And Chicago can do it when they have to: Shaw, Bollig, Bickel, Bolland. Very difficult guys to play against. Always having the puck skewed their blocking and hitting stats.

That's basically the point I'm always making. I'll state it again:

We need balance. Players with a solid mix of size, speed, skill and snarl. We good here?
 
Im thinking about how not buying out Richards is saving the Rangers from a lot of these bad deals, and about how many of these teams that are making splashes today maybe not having enough room next july to drive up the price as much... Not sure who will be available next year but the Rangers may have a better shot at getting multiple quality players in here once BR is bought out.

In the meantime they take care of their FAs, give Richards another shot and adjust to a new system, coach and league alignment. They will have a better idea of what they need next season and what kind of cap space they have after some of their big rfas and hank sign.

There is however risk associated with all of it, being Richards health. Keeping him healthy is a huge deal for this teams future.

Agree 100%.

Even if we make zero trades, at least we didn't hand out any ridiculoua contracts to garbage players.

The only contract that is good so far today is Weiss. And that may be because he took less to sign with Detroit specifically.
 
Over a playoff run Ryan Callahan isn't going to be able to wear down the opposition on his own. And it often comes down to a war of attrition inthe POs.

The other options on the roster to do so can hardly take a regular shift of a 1-1 game.

That's a big issue. Just once I'd like to see a roster that dishes out some punishment instead of continually rolling over and having players go down with injuries.
 
The Rangers may seem soft because they struggled on the forecheck AKA deceptive bias.

Rangers couldn't afford Hendricks at 1.85 according to Katie Strang via ESPN. So I don't see how they shell money out to Iginla.

The cap is going up supposedly a lot. All teams will hAve cap space
 
4 years. $10M. The Rangers made the right decision. Prust barely played through a 48 game season without getting hurt. He hurt his shoulder in TB. It bothered him for the rest of the season. He plays too hard. In the Ottawa series,Prust played with one arm. Prust was a 4th liner in 11-12.

Fine, what if Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett is our 4th line? That seems on par with most 4th lines in the league, especially if Pyatt and Boyle actually play to their size.

The Rangers seem soft because people have a hard on for the Bruins or something, it's this infectious HF syndrome that pops up every summer, it's either soft, slow, or small and they always get blown way out of proportion.

I'm not arguing that we're not soft, or at least softer than two years ago either. Just come up with something original.

Asham? Haley?

Those 5 forwards are on par with the physicality of the most teams up front.

The defense is completely being overlooked. Dan Girardi and Marc Staal are very physical players. Even McDonagh.

I disagree. I still believe the Rangers #1 priority is skill level.
