Montreal - "I want a 2024 1st"
Calgary - "Only if it is our own pick that is #20-32 Overall"
Montreal - "OK well then if it is a 2025 pick then I want the earlier of yours and Florida's"
Calgary - "OK but only if they are both outside the top-10"
Montreal - "No, no... If your own first is a top-10 selection but Florida's is not then I still want Florida's 2025 1st."
Calgary - "OK"
Montreal - "Well what if Florida has a lottery pick in 2025 which pushes the pick out to 2026 and your own 2025 1st is outside the top-10, but Florida's pick is better than yours?"
Calgary: "OK I will give you a 4th round pick in that very specific scenario."
Montreal: "Well what happens if both you and Florida have a lottery pick in 2025"
Calgary: "...ok you can have our 2025 1st UNLESS it is #1 Overall. In that case we keep the #1 selection in 2025 and you get a 2026 1st (the better of MTL/FLA) and a 2025 3rd"

It's simple

Online EHM league GMs: "Here's our trade proposal, with conditions."

League commish: "No way I'm reading all that. Trade denied."

Pastrnak reportedly unhappy with Boston. UFA next off-season. That is a player I could see Carolina paying up for if he becomes available. Only 27 when he signs his next deal and he is a Superstar who wants to win.
Boston has brought everyone back to make another run. It would be weird for them to sell him off now

He will have to give up being a spokesman for Dunkin Donuts and switch to Krispy Kreme or we riot.

I'm skeptical that this is reliable. Usually Boston's one of these clubs, similar to the Rangers, that can reload on the fly precisely BECAUSE players like playing there. I could totally see them signing someone young and good like Larkin or Barbashev in UFA in order to generate another window post-Bergeron.

I doubt Carolina would trade for a pending UFA Pastrnak, and I doubt Boston would deal him after bringing back Bergeron for one last shot.

But since Carolina has ~$25M in cap space available next off-season I could see them making a run at Pastrnak as a UFA.

Seeing he’ll be UFA #2 behind Larkin and a PPG guy, he’ll likely be higher than 9 AAV.

Larkin will either extend with Detroit or be dealt and extended at the trade deadline. He won't make it to the UFA market. Pasta could potentially make it to market because Boston is still contending and cannot use him as a deadline chip unless they crater.

Gaudreau made it to free agency, anyone can. Detroit may trade him, but I think it's more likely they go the Nashville/Forsberg route and try like hell to get it done whatever it takes if he doesn't extend quickly. Local boy at the core of that team, I don't think they let him go without pulling out every stop.

Oh, anybody CAN make it to market. I'm saying that it is not in the interest of a rebuilding team like Detroit to have Larkin go to market. Usually, if a top player goes to market, they are coming from a max cap ceiling contending club like Gaudreau this offseason, Hamilton last offseason, and Pastrnak this coming offseason.

Bold prediction: Miller doesn't get traded in the offseason because nobody has the cap room to make it work for a rental, at the deadline, the Canucks are in a playoff spot and fighting to stay there and decide they can't spare him, so will just ride it out, and it ends in Miller getting overpaid to stay or hitting the market, never having been traded.

Yep. IF the Canucks falter this year it's going to be more like the Duchene trade to Columbus than the Duchene trade to Ottawa which is what Vancouver fans are using as a comparable.

An equivalent trade from us would probably be a first, Suzuki, and the rights to Keane

Considering I don’t think Suzuki or Keane will ever be a regular for us I would probably do this to go for a run this year if we could fit him in the cap. Would be an absurdly stacked forward group with Miller and Patches, and giving up a first wouldn’t hurt our extended window either.

I mean, seriously, this would be ridiculous come playoff time:

Patches - Aho - Turbo
Svech - Miller - Jarvis
Kase/Drury - JK - Necas
Stastny - Staal - Fast

*yes I know Martinook would still be in the lineup but I’m suspending my disbelief for this exercise

Necas, Bear and the best of our 2024 2nd round pick to Dallas for Jason Robertson at 8 yrs X 7.0 million

would this be enough if Dallas was willing to deal or would we need to throw in another prospect?

If we can fit it under the cap that's a deal I could live with. Suzuki and Keane are 2 players who could end up being a big role of a rebuild and a foundation of a rebuilding team but probably won't crack the lineup for us. If we could flip them for an upgrade now, why not.

The only thing I worry about is that part of the reason why I want Drury to be playing this year is because of his ELC. I have full faith he will be a solid player for us, and having his salary low gives us flexibility elsewhere. If he's not cracking the lineup our forward group gets expensive in a hurry.

I doubt anyone values them as foundation pieces that could be a big part of a rebuild . Keane has barely gotten a look and now is playing in Russia and Suzuki has had so many injuries and missed so much time. If they have any value at all it’s very low.
