It doesn't matter how many points you finish with during the season. If you finish 27th in the standings, you're still a lottery team.

Anaheim finished 23rd overall last year. If they do better and finish 19th, it has no bearing on the Habs' lottery odds because someone else will finish 23rd.

No matter what, there are 15 teams that don't make the playoffs.

Yes from an odds perspective - but Anaheim being 15 points clear of the Habs means they aren't a threat to improve their odds over the Habs from a final standings perspective.

There's 2 factors the lottery percentage and your standing in the draft order prior to the lottery. We want to make sure that we have less teams challenging us for 3rd last in the NHL, knowing that Chicago and Arizona are likely the bottom 2.

You said Anaheim getting better improves Habs' lottery odds. The only thing that determines Habs' lottery odds is where the Habs finish.

if anaheim is improved and gets more points in the standings, that could help them finish ahead of the habs, thus giving us better lottery odds. So yeah, there are the same number of teams in the lottery regardless, but every team that finishes ahead of the habs = more lottery balls for the habs.

no?

Dallas will take a dive soon

They have already begun to dive. I don't see them being a real competitive team. They may be better off selling the 3 big pieces they have and going into a rebuild. To not keep Klingberg when you have the money should be telling to the rest of the team that the direction the team is going in.

Makes no sense. Verbeek dumps players at the trade deadline like Lindholm and now adds average players like Strome and Vatrano and Klingberg for 1 year??? in a year where the draft is one of the best in 20 years.

Klingberg should be able to score a nice haul at the end of the year. We'll see just how good they are thus year.

Yup. Both teams think that the coaching staff was the problem, not the roster.
The coaches were worthless bums. And the GM's were completely incompetent. Chicago's roster was good enough to compete with an addition or 2. Flyers need to overhaul the entire organization and at least half the roster.

Gotta think Galchenyuk’s time in the NHL is over. Maybe a PTO and possibly the end of the road.

Subban, you gotta think he gets a 1 year deal. Might have to take 1 mill or less.

Probably KHL bound.

The coaches they had are far from good, but the was not core of the issue.

Galchenyuk scores 30 as a 21 year old and is now entering his prime and his career is basically over. Sad to see.

PK thought being built like a middle linebacker was the way to go.
When you are drafted because of elite skating abilities and you lose 2+ steps because you got too heavy that's simply bad strategy. He will be a natural behind a microphone analyzing games.

Based on this logic we should not care if nobody gets signed or any team gets better cause as long as Montreal loses to them we are ok? Well it is a whole lot easier to lose to teams if they have better players.

It's not about caring or not caring man.

You said the Habs' odds are better now that Anaheim got better.

If Habs finish last, their odds remain those of a last placed team. If they finish in 25th place, their odds remain those of a 25th placed team.

It doesn't matter if the teams around them in the draft lottery are the same as last year or new ones.

Maybe Dallas like most other teams are scared off due to his abysmal defensive results.

Seems like he’s doing Zero training if I’m going by his IG. Not the best impression to leave GMs if you’re trying to get a contract

I like this, helps keep Ducks away from the Bedard cellar.

This makes alot of sense.

Aside from the worst case scenario where klingberg suffers a career ending injury, klingberg opens himself up to free agency once again next year where the money supply should increase.

Meanwhile, the ducks can flip him at the deadline and get some free assets back, and use that spending power again next year if they so choose.

I guess we will agree to disagree. I happen to think non-playoff teams signing star players helps them win more games than originally expected.

Who knows, maybe subban might have to settle for a PTO too.
