Can't say enough good things about the way @BlueJacketsNHL and @TheFalconsAHL treated me. Amazing people there. Best wishes.

Top five #NHL cap payrolls (inc. bonuses): 1. PHI $68.1M 2. CBJ $66.3M 3. MIN $65.7M 4. DET $65.0M 5. SJS $64.4M

So called budget team is 2nd in the NHL in spending

Weren't we in the top 5 (to start the year) the year after the playoffs? Then we started trading salaries when the team tanked?

Here's a good explanation of the current cap/salary situation for the Jackets:

http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/content/blogs/puck-rakers/2013/07/cbj-...-a-cap-team.html

The crux of the matter is summed up in the last paragraph:

But the bigger bottom line is this: the Blue Jackets have, for now, $2.6 million to spend with 13 forwards (not counting Boone Jenner), seven defenseman and two goaltenders. Maybe they sign Vinny Prospal, maybe they look elsewhere. Maybe that let that money sit and save it for the trade deadline. They have enough room and plenty of options.

If Vinny (or someone else) is signed at this point then you are out of options.

because he was hoping for 2MM+

Any opinions on Peter Mueller or a guy like Gabrovski?

I don't think we have forward spaces left to go for Mueller or Grabovski. I like both of those players but I don't think they can re-establish their careers without significant ice-time.

Maybe sign Vinny but only for <$2M and under the condition that he is okay with possibly being scratched half the time.

If Grabovski gets 4MM+ I bet it will be in the KHL

that guys production fell off a cliff, I was thinking he might come a little bit cheaper than than but no worries he's a 2nd line centre and we need a 1st line left winger

going to have grow that from the system I believe. I wouldn't be entirely shocked if Jarmo trades some assets for that top line guy. Quite a few teams are sitting out there with only half their rosters signed today

David Desharnais

It looks like the blue jackets are looking to make the playoffs and have a lot of good players but as an outsider looking in who will be your top 2 centres and do you need an upgrade in that positions? I think you do and Montreal has an extra offensive centre that are willing to trade.

Would David Desharnais fit in with the CBJ? He is small but put up 60 points in the last full NHL season. He had 28 points last year in 48 games. That would have made him the CBJ's leading scorer the last 2 years. David Desharnais is signed for 4 more years at 3.5 million

Montreal would be looking for a big winger in return and the CBJ have lots of them in Horton/ Dubinsky/Anisimov/Umberger/Folingo/.

Would the CBJ trade 1 of Dubinsky/Anisimov/Umberger/Folingo/ for Desharnais ?
