I don’t think Garroich and Benji are correct with Giroux being a lock to stay or that a contract is close

I know someone close to Giroux family and his kid is a big Edmonton fan so never say never plus he wants to win so we’ll see.

Ottawa is possible I’m sure but keep an eye out with regards to Edmonton

My nephew is 5 and has a new favorite team every week. A couple months ago we were watching a Sens game and out of the blue, he announced the he was a Kraken fan. Ottawa was not playing Seattle that night.

I just don't see teams placing much value on a guy who is overpaid, and also a gigantic injury liability for the team, who is also making 9.5 in real dollars. He's missed 130 games over the past 4 years, teams are going to bake that liability risk into his value
There are question marks but he's a C and everybody wants them. Teams probably think they may be able to get him at a discount.

Sens have never been big at the trade deadline.

Who are their biggest pickups the past 25 years?

Cullen?
Commodore?
Sutton?
Comrie (x2)
Bondra?
Saprykin?

It was Stillman in my opinion pretty easily.

I think if they get anybody at the dealine tomorrow, it's going to be guys less than the grouping above
The Cullen & Sutton deadline made that roster into a contender, aside from questionable goaltending.

Both players played exceptionally well in their roles in the playoffs vs Pittsburgh.

The issue was that Kovalev, in his first year of his two year deal, blew his knee after the deadline and a week before the end of the regular season. Foligno Fisher Kovalev was a deadly second line that was missed come playoff time.

So in spite of great deadline work by GMBM, they got knocked out in 6 games by the prime Penguins.

If you're implying Rantanen, Lebrun was on Overdrive last hour and said there are 3 teams in on him: Florida, Vegas and Dallas.

The same Pens lost to the Habs in 7 games. Although, tbf Halak played out of his mind, and Fleury choked in game 7.

Carolina should keep Rantanen go for it they got a really good team.
They probably can't afford to get burned again. They gave up a lot for Guentzel last year [Bunting, Ponomarev, Koivunen, Lucius, and a 2nd] and a haul for Rantanen [Necas, Drury, 2nd, 4th].

That's 3 good roster players, 3 good prospects and 3 picks out the door for nothing. It adds up quick and can be pretty damaging for a small market shithole.

You are using words like “not bad” & “decent” versus “good”. Buffalo are clearly not a good team. Doesn’t mean they don’t have good players such as the two that I bolded (pointed out) from your post. Your evaluation are questionable (imo), but of course, people are entitled to their opinions./
Because none of those guys are really 1st liners, they're decent top 6 players. They're 50-60 point guys who don't worry about playing defense.

True but would all be worth it if they win - I think they are amongst the best teams personally.

Raleigh is a fantastic place to live. Good weather, good golf, next to no taxes.

That may be true, but they haven't had any luck attracting the talents they've been courting. Couldn't get Guentzel done, clearly won't be able to sign Rantanen, couldn't keep Dougie Hamilton. Couldn't close the deal on Matthew Tkachuk. I'm sure there are others.

Obviously it's not an Ottawa-tier market where pretty much everybody wants to avoid it, but they clearly aren't a top choice for most players.

Their owner is a cheap nut.

A big deal by fan standards, or a big deal by Steve Staios standards?

Staios would say Brandon Tanev is "a really big acquisition for this group, with his experience and professionalism".
I don’t think Staios is delusional. A bigger move is almost certainly a core piece if it happens.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving organization with their bunch of jerks branding.

Ottawa not being a prime destination is a bit overblown.

Sure it doesn't have a night life, has high taxes, everything is closed at 6pm, nicknamed Ottberia in the winter and Saunottawa in the summer, is a sleepy town, rink gets constantly invaded, arena is a city away from the actual city but it's a great place to raise a family when you've reached 35+ years old.
