We really have to make the playoffs. It would do wonders for our upcoming offseason. Only 16 playoff teams in the league, and players want to play for good teams. We have empty cupboards now, but that's not so much of an issue if we're a destination players want to sign with.

Like we got Giroux for free. Imagine if we had a few more signings like that?
We were a perennial juggernaut year in year out. We signed hasek.

Playoff tickets are really cheap for the first round if you renew your season tickets. $800 or so for 8 tickets to 4 games.

Yes I’m very well aware of what STH benefits are, that’s why I said obstructed view for $50. But now you’ve come back with a 100% increase on the tickets, to $100.

It's like they knew this would happen so they used playoff tickets to trick people into paying for another year of Sens hockey.

It’s been the same since the 90’s, nothing changed.

I can't see them moving Greig. He played a much bigger role since late December, and he is cost controlled at what is going to quickly become a very good number now that we know the cap is going to shoot way up.
He's playing a bigger role because we have nothing better ahead of him. Ideally he's a 3rd line winger who can agitate and crash-and-bang, but he's currently slotted as a top 6 due to injury and lack of depth. Peterka would be a 2nd line winger for Stu who can shoot and score. There's IMO a massive gap in value between them, regardless of the cost-controlled nature of Greig's contract.

Not reading much into it but Seravalli added Peterka to his trade board:

If ever he gets moved it’ll be in the offseason if they can’t agree on a deal

Full throttle for this guy. Full throttle.

Greig+Zub+2nd

Greig+conditional 1st

He is exactly what we need.

Trade Norris/Batherson to recoup assets we lose from getting JJ.

send them batherson

Without hesitation.

I misspoke. $400 for 8 tickets in the 300s. Not obstructed view, unless you count my big coconut sized head in front of the person behind me.

4k for the entire package, which assumes 4 games every round.

It would be like the jensen acquisition. Like a 2 for one getting chabot going. Peterka should elevate stutzles game even further.

We have the means to sign Peterka to a long term contract

We have 17.5M in cap space next year with 13 players signed. If we re-sign Giroux, and fill up our entire roster with players in the 775k-1.XXM range, that space is mostly spoken for. That likely eats up around 15M of that space. "We shouldn't sign Giroux" isn't a realistic option.

Cap space is at a premium for us and we have minimal cap flexibility, so giving up a 1st for a player without moving cap out is sort of a double-whammy in this situation. Because it means we have to find the 5M-8M to extend Peterka somewhere. I don't think many of our players are moveable without taking back cap. For example, you could say trade Batherson, but what's the market like for Batherson if we can take back a contract vs only dealing with teams who can take on his entire 5M hit clean. The double whammy is putting ourselves in a situation where we have to make trades from a position of weakness because of the cap we would need to clear.

That's why I think it would have to be something like Batherson for Peterka, and I highly doubt Buffalo would do that. If I recall, the post I responded to suggested our first for Peterka, but I might be misremembering. If a third party team at the deadline is willing to do something like an expiring contract+1st for Batherson, and we can then flip that 1st in a package for Peterka, that makes sense. But looking at how Buffalo has handled moving their other young stars in the past, they probably want a comparable young star in a change of scenery type move.

The cap is going up this season, but only slightly. The big jump is in 2026-2027 and 2027-2028. Looking at our roster, we're going to see a lot more of Korpisalo for Ullmark, Chychrun for Jensen, and 3rd+Joseph type trades, where we either have to give up assets to gain cap or make hockey trades where similar cap is going in and out.

I'm one of few that would be okay doing pinto for peterka. Stu and jj, brady and Norris ridly will grow to fill the 2c if lord for bid norris gets hurt.
We’re lucky if Greig ever becomes a 3 c

And then who are we acquiring to get Sanderson going? Trading your top pair d man for some rando winger is not a good move

Ya, I see Grieg as a 3rd liner and its a bit too much of a stretch to have him playing higher in the lineup.

I saw a tweet that said GMs are calling about Peterka. But, Peterka seems like the kind of player asset that Buffalo would keep. GMs calling the Sabres doesn’t mean JJ is available. Lots of stuff floating around this time of year before the deadline. Time will tell.

People are going crazy in here with trade proposals lately. I’d wonder if injured players are healthy & get back into the lineup whether that might settle things down? The 5 game losing streak has caused a stir, but its not a coincidence that this occurred when 3 of our top 5 forwards were hurt.

The fact that Lindgren f***ing managed to get a 2nd makes me believe if Hamonic didn't have NMC, we'd have gotten positive value for him, like a 4th or something.

We would have gotten a pick for Hamonic.

We will probably get a late pick for JBD as well. NHL RD are in short supply. Anybody with a pulse who has shown they can sit on the bench will get a 7th, like Christian Jaros did.

Lindgren, Ceci, etc - all those players who people trash for not being prime Drew Doughty, the reality is there are so few guys who can play that role in the NHL and nobody looks good in it. It's why Dallas has to give up a 1st for Ceci, even if they had to take Granlund's contract to make the deal work.

I might get crucified for this opinion, but JBD would absolutely be a 7th Dman at worst if not a 6th on the Panthers or Oilers.
