Staios can always extend him to a cheap 2 year deal and let Hamonic walk. We're pretty asset depleted but I feel like Matinpalo is more valuable to us as a 7th D that turns into our 6th D next year over a 4th or 3rd we might get for him.
if the thought process is he becomes a 6th d for next year then maybe, since a 3rd can get a middle winger based off the trades thus far. My overall point is that him sitting for the rest of the year will just reduce his value from where ever it is now

but for next year we will also have Yak fighting for that #6 spot who will get the inside track because of draft position, we also have sebrango since he will need waivers next year.

What is Yakemchuk's trade value?

He is one of very few assets we have to get a higher end player.

It would not be ideal to trade him or any 1st round picks , especially since we only have 1 in the next 2 drafts but Matinpalo has given us a pretty decent 3rd pair and Jensen looks like he has at least a couple good years in him beyond his current contract (26) . ZUb is under contract until 27

I would not count on him taking a top 4 spot from Zub or Jensen for at least 2 years .

Its unbelievable how bare Dorion left the cupboards and what we have to show for his choices 2021 on

My guess is the Sens value him more highly than just about any other front office in the league. That's not the kind of player you tend to see traded, because it would be hard for them to get what they consider fair value in return.

Absolutely valid point, especially if we can extend whomever we can acquire for a 3rd (a Donato type player)

I think it was Green (or maybe Staios idk) who recently said they think he’s gonna be one of the top defencemen in the NHL, so it would probably take a lot to move him and other teams won’t pay the price.

We said he was an elite skater at the draft, so that kind of proclomation doesn't surprise me whatsoever

Like others said, we very, very likely value him more than 31 other teams. No chance they trade him, and if they did, they'd get nowhere near what they value him

So

You want to bet $3.6 more per year in cap hit for more years that he may bounce back?

No thanks. At least Norria fills multiple roles and is a competitive guy who fits in the room well.

He is also ramping up after 2 years of basically no hockey.
norris is also chronically unavaliable and is a shoulder injury away from probably being untradeable

there are risks both ways. Petersson has the obvious skill and is young enough to bounce back in a new situation like Eichel was

Eichel was unhappy in Buffalo because the organization was a complete dumpster fire and not serious about winning.

Pettersson is unhappy in Vancouver because Tocchet is too hard on him and he'd rather spend time playing video games than working on his game.

The two really aren't the same.

I wouldn't touch Pettersson. He's not serious about being a top end NHLer. There's no drive there.
