Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

Canucks fan here.

Keep thinking Norris to VAN just seems inevitable with the amount of smoke. Him being best friends with Quinn just makes this a no brainer.

Agreed, don’t think Norris has high value given the price tag and injury history. Seems like just two parties needing a fresh start. Getting rid of the contract and picking up depth seems to be the most logical way to go about it.

Hoglander was very good under Travis Green and desperately needs a fresh start. Scored 24 last year playing mostly bottom six minutes. Modest contract for 3M x 3 years.

Soucy has one more year remaining at 3.25M and is a serviceable third pairing dman… is probably better than Hamonic right now and can play both sides.

I feel like Soucy and Hoglander isnt enough to pull the trigger for you guys… we can probably take back Perron too. Is he completely washed? Is he still good on the powerplay at least? Canucks could use another offensive winger even as a stop gap.

Soucy Hoglander for Norris Perron. You guys would save about $6M next year and still get two useful roster players. Canucks take a massive swing for a center.

Issue with that trade is Norris is still a very good player and nothing moves the needle for Ottawa there.

No way Ottawa touches that deal.

A kinda bad d man, who doesn’t replace anyone on our d corps, a forward who tocchet doesn’t reallly want to play and a second round pick for our second line Center? Why

"League executives say the Senators would like to get centre Josh Norris and his $7.95-million salary cap hit off the books, but not many teams can take on that contract without giving Ottawa something back."

The return is getting him off the books. This isn't EA sports... this is real life. It's very possible that your organization doesn't want to pay 8M USD for someone who can't stay healthy. Reallocating that money can improve depth and flexibility.

Sometimes fans can't separate the player on-ice value and the player asset value. This is one of the occasions where the asset value is way smaller than the on-ice value due to contract and injury concerns. It's not about "oh we're giving up our second line centre for nothing", it's about creating financial flexibility and ridding yourselves of a bad contract with term to make upgrades elsewhere in the lineup. Some posters here get it - some haven't quite grasped it yet. I like the Sens btw, but it's very clear Norris and Ottawa both need fresh starts.

Also, Soucy is easily better than Hamonic... cmon.

I'm fine with trading Norris in the off-season, but dumping his contract now could cause us to miss the playoffs.

Soucy is better than Hamonic but he's also a left-handed D.I think he's spent some time at RD, so maybe he could occupy that role, but paying him 3.25M to be our 6th D is wasteful when Matinpalo and JBD have both been able to play reasonably well in that role.

Yes, I don’t think that concept is as difficult for folks to understand as you seem to imagine. Staois hasn’t decided to move him so far. Maybe he’s thinking that they’d stick on LTIR if Norris has another serious injury - who knows. All we know is that he hasn’t pulled the trigger which given the rumoured poor returns doesn’t seem too surprising.

It would be nice if you name the source and attach the article in question as well.

Welcome to the Sens board (might be a recycled identity) ;)LOL.

Soucy, Hoglander, VAN 2nd for Norris, JBD
VAN 2nd to SEA for Tanev

That's the kind of deal I expect.
I hear you in general, but why would we want either of those players from Van. We are good on LD and Hoglander is a 5'9 Joseph making 3x3 starting next year.

We'd be better off giving Norris away for a 2nd and then signing better players / fits in UFA.

If VAN want Norris, then they are going to have to give us something we can actually use in return. Otherwise we can trade him to any team in the league.
