Acquiring Karlsson must be cursed.

Both times he was traded, the package looked bad at the time of the trade but then nearly every asset involved upped their value, and his acquiring team did worse than expected upping the value of the 1st.

How is Granlund worth a first?

He came with Ceci.

You totally know that Jim Nill is in love with Ceci and wanted to pay San Jose's ask for him, but he is a big Twitter user and is aware of the "Ceci is bad meme". Not wanting to embarrass himself, he had them throw Granlund into the trade, so that everybody online wouldn't realize that he just gave up a 1st round pick for Ceci.

I’d think (guess) Buffalo will re-sign Tuch. They’ll have plenty of cap space next year and he’s a good player.
Probably the most likely scenario but there is a chance that Tuch is reluctant to re-sign and as a consequence would potentially be a trade option.

I know I was on the Pettersson bandwagon but it's really hard to justify it after that Washington game.

Saw some speculating on Boeser because of our scoring woes, but could we fit him in next year with the new cap if he's looking for Norris $$$?

Also not sure if we're looking for that, Staios was looking for a power forward type. Some good suggestions in here already.

Ceci would have gotten a 2nd/3rdish by himself at the deadline from a playoff team.

Real good work by Grier, turned the absolute worst contract in the league into Sam Dickinson + 2025 1st (with some spare change to and from)

Getting out of the Karlsson contract is astounding in and of itself. Getting 2 very nice picks for it is unreal.
Granlund was the perfect player for them to add, I wouldn't be surprised if they identified him independent of the Karlsson trade.

I don't want to see the Sens making any deals where one of our good young players, prospects or assets are traded away for a deadline acquisition. There are several players available that could be had for cheap where we could ship off assets we don't need. Most of the players people are talking about would be too expensive to acquire at the deadline, I would much rather see them target a really good RW this summer in free agency when they won't cost any assets.

IMO they are running with three good lines now, they are getting good goaltending finally & the defence when they are all healthy are playing well & we have depth in a number of positions. We need to replace Giroux at some point which is why we should go after a good RW in the off season when we have cleared up some cap space & can afford a little more. IMO we need to improve our 4th line for the playoff push & run so we can get some decent minutes out of them & hopefully they can also contribute a little on the scoreboard.

A team that has Dumba and Ceci in their 2/3 pairings doesn’t scream cup winners to me. sheeesh

We'd probably kill for a Ceci in our bottom pair right now. The reality is that their aren't enough proven NHL defenseman to go around post-expansion, that Ceci is never going to play on a bottom pair again until he ages out of his current role. He's stuck in a purgatory where he is known as a shutdown guy, is good enough in that spot but nowhere near elite, but rarely in his career has he been in a position to play the easy minutes that the darlings like Brannstrom get to play, that have me rolling my eyes when people tell me how he's a "top pairing defenseman" playing 12 minutes a night against butter soft competition.

He's been played as a top line shutdown guy most of his career. There is confirmation bias with people saying how he is bad, the worst, etc - because that's an impossible role for anybody but the most elite defenders to not look like crap in. The one team that played him in a more reserved role, Pittsburgh, had people talking about how "maybe he isn't terrible".

Granted, Dallas will probably play him 22 minutes a night, but that's not really the point.

The reason Edmonton had to attach a pick to Ceci was because they traded him at the end of the offseason when most teams had filled their needs, and there was almost no free cap available in the league that was backed up by real spendable dollars (aka not from a budget team).

They dealt from an extreme position of weakness.

Even a veteran 6th-7th NHL defenseman goes for a mid to late pick. There is a shortage of proven NHL defenseman available. Ceci is a known quantity, not to mention, right handed. Someone would have given up a 2nd or a 3rd for him on an expiring contract.

Also helps them stay in the 25.5% slot for 1st overall
