Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

Bruce Boudreau on NHL Sirius Radio yesterday praised JT Miller saying that he would take him on any team he coached. He also liked Pettersson… tons of skill.

Seems to me like Briere got fleeced in that trade, but maybe they think Torts can get Kuzmenko back on track or something. Otherwise I just don't see the point of losing two solid young guys like that for scraps.
Kuzmenko played with Michkov. Frost and Farabee were frustrating as they never gained consistency nor reached anywhere close to their potential. I wouldn’t be surprised if JT Miller is a Flyer soon.

Pelletier is the main piece. Philly is probably hoping they are acquiring a "Mike Hoffman half a year after he cleared waivers" type asset.

Kuzmenko might be able to be rehabilitated into an asset by the deadline, maybe he will help Michkov, but I think he is largely there for short-term cap balance.

I think the Flyers are looking towards their offseason and figured they are trending out of the playoffs, they could move out some contracts that they no longer want earlier. My guess would be that they wanted to get out of the Farabee contract, and they liked Pelletier. Frost is also arbitration eligible and has a decent resume, despite not living up to it this season. They might not be crazy about potentially having to pay him 3M-4M through arbitration, and not being able to walk away from it.

I don't think Kuzmenko has a lot of value. He is likely there to help balance out some of the cap. If he has a bounce back, I would guess they flip him at the deadline with retention. I don't think there would be a market for him though.

For the Flames, they added two roster players who if they bounce back are huge upgraded in the short term over Pelletier and Kuzmenko. Pelletier probably wasn't worth much on the trade market, and he isn't playing a big role for them. They basically upgraded two roster spots without giving up any short-term assets - the only asset they gave up was the long-term cap to absorb the term of Farabee's contract. It's like getting two rentals months early, it's really good work in that regard.

UFA goes to the low-tax, warm weather, Cup contender. Nobody could have seen that coming.
