Is he better than Mantipalo or Guenette? If so, what makes you believe that to be the case?

I honestly had never heard of him before someone brought him up as a potential waiver claim, had you?
First, nope, never had heard of him. Did some investigating once I did though, and believe he would have been a worthwhile target (for many of the same reasons others have posted).

Regarding Matinpalo and Guenette...

At 26 and a year in NA, I had hoped that Matinpalo would be pushing for a spot in Ottawa but maybe he's still getting used to the NA ice? Apparently he has a hard shot?

Guenette is a bottom pairing guy at best, from all accounts. Really no room for him in Ottawa at this point.

My take on Regula is that he was close to making the jump to the NHL full time but suffered a knee injury. The Sens had room for his contract, pick him up, rehab him with the big club, worst case he gets waived and lost, best case he provides depth at RD.

Seems like an opportunity missed by a team with limited draft capital and still mired in a rebuild.

Regula is just another AHL depth defender we already have a bunch of.

He’s no different than Guenette.
I think Regula is better than Guenette. He was a plus 36 last year. He's very sound defensively, has size, toughness, some offensive ability and skates well. I'd bet my bottom dollar that no team would touch Matinpalo or Guenette should they ever require waivers. Edmonton picking Alec Regula up on waivers despite his not having played a single game this year speaks to how highly they must view him. The bottom line is that we passed on a player who plays a position where we need help. It would have been a very low risk move to give him a shot. It's not like Hamonic and JBD are elite or that Zub never gets hurt.

We don’t have room to add another bottom pairing d man, why would we anyways, and a waiver pick up has to stay on the roster.
With Zub out we have lots of room from LTIR and we'll need a body for the road trip, if nothing else, a claim would mean we could leave Mantipalo/Sebrango/Guenette in Belleville getting games rather than sitting in the press box.

Speaking of waiver wire, with Ostapchuk hurt, maybe there's a little more motivation to pick up Nylander, if nothing else it would give us a body for the road trip and mean we only need one callup from Belleville to allow us to carry an extra fwd.

Boston would rather keep Wotherspoon and Oesterle than him, not sure what that says about him, but I'm not particularly high on either of those guys.

Not sure, they were talking about it on the radio this morning, but they don't likely know anything beyond he didn't return after getting crosschecked into the boards and favouring his shoulder.

So every senators player will eventually suffer a shoulder injury it’s just a matter of time?

Does every team face this?
Can we get a shoulder expert on the staff already who just trains their shoulders?

Nothing you can do about blunt force trauma, unfortunately.

Wasn't a non-contact injury.

Alex Nylander as a Senator?

Ostapchuk might be hurt. We are low on right hand shots. We could call up one of the 2-3 guys who were in the mix at training camp like Jenik or Reinhardt, but Belleville is fighting for a playoff spot and already lost Ostapchuk.

Not saying Nylander could come here and be good, but it would just as much be a claim for organizational depth as it would be one to fill an immediate spot on the pro roster. He may not be an upgrade on what we have available as the next call up, but he also keeps us from calling someone else up.

I would rather have Ceci

A Nylander sucks. just a big shot who can't make room for himself and does nothing else.

much rather play Jenik or Rhino or Halliday. someone who might actually have a future with the team.

I wonder if they call Halliday, feels like the lineup could use a passer who can get the puck into shooting positions for Pinto

He was favouring the shoulder early in the game and I was surprised the commentators never mentioned it.

He has one play on the half wall in our zone where he tried to pass back to our D and it was a straight give-away leading to a quick shot - he winced immediately and favoured the injured shoulder.

I wondered if taking the Jensen shot up high, when Gregor scored, might have been when he got injured.

Ya, just checked and Regula has a 2-way contract. He could have filled in for Zub until he was healthy and ready to return to the lineup. Then they could have moved him to Belleville without any concerns.

I’ve never watched him play or have any info on him, so I’m not commenting on that aspect. Just doesn’t seem like there were any contractual encumbrances is all I’m saying.
