Watching that game last night made me think about Weegar again. Man I wish Ottawa could pry him out of there. Would happily include Norris in a deal for him and sacrifice Zub to make room.

Should have made a push for him back before they aqcuired Chyc. Was some chatter around Weegar at the time.

Great dman for sure, and from the Ottawa area.

He would have been a much better fit, that's for sure and he signed for a very reasonable AAV even if it goes a bit too long. Might be my favorite player in the league atm.

I love how how you throw Ceci into everything. Having a beer...use the Ceci Cozy to keep it cool. Car break down in buttfcknowhere?.....Call Ceci Towing. Firing up the grill?...Don't forget Ceci BBQ Spice.

It's more confirmation bias because he is an attainable trade piece that fills the exact role we are looking for and is likely to be made available.

Obviously, I could be like man wouldn't it be great if we traded Josh Norris for Devon Toews, and everybody could compliment me for picking a great trade target.

I'm not even sure why people keep accusing me of being such a big Ceci fan.

Weegar would be a great addition, and even with Zub out as part of the deal I think it could work well. We would be betting on Pinto though.

Perron-Greig-Amadio
Gregor-Ostapchuk-Reinhardt

No way in hell do the Flames make a deal for Weegar unless we send someone much better than either Norris or Zub their way. In fact I think it would take someone like Chabot for them to consider it.

I mean, he's got 8 goals, surely he can shoot...
I would need to see his goals again to refresh my memory, but I'm pretty sure only one of them was a one-timer (I should have specified that I mostly meant his ability to one-time), and wonder how many of the others were deflections, tips or tucking in a rebound from up close? Valuable for sure in general, but not what you would want from him on PP1, when you already have Brady there...

6 by wrist shot,
1 by backhand
1 tipped.

The also have stats for Snap and slap, not sure which a one timer would fall under but he apparently hasn't even had one slap shot (at least, one that was on net) so I would think snap?

I think ultimately what happens would come down more to what Weegar wants, but I agree Norris on his own definitely isn't enough.

The team not being total shite doesn't really bode well for it though. He's said he wants to stick it out and not bail.

Trade would be so much easier to make if they were in a playoff spot.

Making a trade now to only end up at the same spot is a very tough trade to make

I was thinking he was suggesting both, which tbh seems like a pretty fair deal if you think Norris is over the injury bug. Might have to add a pick or retain a touch.

25 yr old two way center, pacing at 31g 55pts with a bit of upside
29 yr old top 4 defensive dman

for

31 year old two way dman pacing at 11g 44 pts

Yes, was thinking either Zub included, or in a subsequent trade to then flip to Calgary something else along with Norris. Don't think Norris is enough on his own.

Weegar would be an interesting target. No idea what Calgary might want in a trade. Would they be concerned about getting healthier plsyers? Maybe. Some here tend to think Norris wouldn’t fetch much because of injury concerns. I’d think there’d be a good market for Weegar.

I'm not sure what to think of it. They've surprised this year and he made that statement about not wanting to bail on Calgary and stick it out, so we'll see. Can't imagine Ottawa is an attractive place considering they're still trying to figure out the rebuild 7 years in.

Yes, good point. What does Weegar want? I didn’t see a NMC or NTC, so at least there’s that. I remember something about him not wanting to come to Ottawa or be traded, but can’t recall exact details. My memory can be fuzzy sometimes. The other issue is whether the Flames would have concerns about Norris & Zub’s health. Lots of unknowns.

With Toews decline and contract, Norris for Toews might not even sound outlandish...

According to Puckpedia, he has a full NTC this year and 2 more, then a modified 10 team NTC the rest of his contract.

Only real PR I remember is beginning of this season when he said he wants to be part of the solution in Calgary.

Iirc, I remember some rumblings about him refusing to come to Ottawa on an inquiry, but they did have the worst owner in sports at the time and were basically an embarrassing bush league club, so you never know.

I must be blind. I’m literally on PuckPedia now (and checked before posting), but don’t see that.

At the bottom of his page, I see: "Yrs 5-8: 10 Team No Trade List”.

Further up, under the heading 2023-2031 Standard Contract, it says:

term 8yrs
value $50.00M
cap hit $6.25M

MacKenzie Weegar is signed to a 8 year, $50,000,000 contract with a cap hit of $6,250,000 per season. His contract was signed on October 7, 2022, and expires at the end of the 2030-31 season, when Weegar will be 37 years old.

Lol. It's a new interface for me too. Where it shows the terms broken down by year, there is a column labeled "terms" that shows the NTC and modified NTC. If you hover over the little shield, it elaborates on the clause.

I now see a row called “Clause" near the bottom of the page (where there are columns for each year) and it says NTC, so I see it now. My bad.

I can’t tell you how long I looked at that page and missed it LOL. My eyes aren’t what they used go be.

I guess it really does boil down to what Weegar wants to do then.

Easy to miss. But ya, he definitely drives the bus on it. Too bad.

If there is a market for Norris then I think Staios would be crazy not to at least explore it.

I like Jiricek out of Columbus, but he's not ready for the NHL full time so isn't the "help now" target.

Does Ceci make sense? Not for Norris! Not unless there is much more attached.

Ceci, Sturm, Haltunnen (saw this kid in London last year, he's a beast and plays mean) for Norris? Honestly don't know if that's too much value for Norris or not enough.

If Columbus would bite on Greig + JBD, I'd go ahead and make that deal too.

Giving up a lot of goals though...so the pressure would be squarely on Pinto to take it up a notch.

BT - TS - AG
CG - SP - DB
DP - Nico Sturm - MA
NG - Ostapchuk - Reinhart
NC

JS - Cody Ceci
TC - NJ
TK - TH
Zub for TH when healthy

The D is better(ish?), but the Forward group is likely struggling even more than they are already to score 5v5. Does the possibility of both Jiricek and Yackumchuk on the right side as soon as next season make it worth the risk? Haltunnen is a bigger, much meaner Ridley Greig.
