I'd love to have Karlsson back on the team but the only way that happens is on the cheap and if we move one of Chabot or Sanderson. He's not gonna be effective on the third pair, and you don't wanna recreate the situation last year of having three offense-first guys in your top four.

I don't think I'd do either of those deals because they're not good for 2-5 years from now.

Dreger today in the pre-game show said he expects Nashville to be buyers after Thanksgiving/trade deadline as they have a lot of draft capital and prospect pool. From what I've read, they seem to have too many shooters, not enough playmakers or players who can get them the puck.
They need centers..

Plus cap space wouldn't work. I'd trade Norris, Greig, and a 1st for Barzal though.
Gross.

Barzal is one of the most overrated players in the NHL. Has a cap hit over $9M for 7 more years, can't stay healthy, and is a peripheral player.

He can skate and handle the puck, but he doesn't do nearly enough for that money.

Perron hasn't even had a chance to play.

It's fairly obvious why his level of performance during the start of the season might have been diminished.

With that said, people need to understand that it is not realistic for every player signed to always meet or exceed the price of their contract. Especially UFAs. It was very obvious that we overpaid Perron because we needed veterans with his intangibles and compete. Similar to Chicago overpaying Foligno the last few seasons. So if you expect him to produce like a 4M player the next two years, you're more than likely not going to be happy with the contract - but I don't think that was the entire point of signing him.

If we had a stronger room, maybe overpaying to get veteran leadership wouldn't have been worth it. But given the state of our team, the complete changeover that Staios tried to execute with the secondary and tertiary players makes sense. You also have to factor in that we're Ottawa, not Vegas, Dallas, Florida Team 1 or 2, or Nashville. So we're always going to have to overpay to get UFAs.

What is the value of David Jiricek?

Is it closer to Yakemchuk, or closer to Greig? Are his struggles because of bad fit, or has he fallen in value since being taken high?

Would he be a fit here? RHD on an ELC who can step in right now?

It should be close to Greig based on his play, but the lack of quality RD in this league makes me think Jiricek's value would be higher.

Don't think there's a fit here. Yakemchuk is too similar as a prospect and it's possible he could be ready as soon as next year.
