Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals - 2025/26 Part II

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
can’t see Knies getting traded unless things have really soured. I get why they would have at the trade deadline last year, but after winning the first pick and signing Raddish it looks like they will be competing again.

Why are the Leafs wanting to trade Knies anyways ? Hes 23 signed long term at a reasonable contract

I’m still confused by it

If I had to guess I would bet Matthews has already told them he won’t extend, but because they don’t have their firsts, they don’t want to cut the cord on him just yet. So maybe they’re trying to balance the present and future and stay competitive in the meantime - but if Matthews isn’t staying, you could see why they’d value the 4th overall over Knies, as they have to plan for the McKenna era too.

The thing that stands out is that it was started by Treliving and continued by Chayka, which suggests it might be organizational direction over GM preferences.

Or I’m totally wrong. But it doesn’t make sense to trade him for an 18 year old when Matthews is 29 otherwise. If they’re getting an established dman that’s different.

if they can get the 4th overall they can get a defensemen finally

mckenna, cowan and nylander have the wings on lock

I mean,

Stu 83 pts
Batherson 71 pts
Cozens 59 pts
We had Brady as another 70-80 pts guy, so pretty damn similar top end before the trade.

Eklund was coming off an injury this year scoring only 53 (56 pts pace) but last year he played at a 62 pts pace, and is 23, 70 pts is certainly possible from him.

We certainly need to keep improving, I'm sure you'd lament adding a 33 year old pacing at 43 pts as just some middle 6 player at best like Hall was when Car added him.

There seems to be a pretty constant grass is always greener theme going on around here. Like, we aren't as good as the Stanley cup champs who only lost three games? Oh no, we must be the worst team ever....
Im talking about current state. Before the brady trade i think most people here would be happy with an eklund add but we need a legit 70+ point player alongisde eklund to build like the canes

I think we NEED to do something about our RD before another forward. I like our top 9. Need a 4th liner

but i think we have to get a 20min RD. Spence doesn't mesh with Chabot or Sanderson imo and could regress as well back to a bottom pair guy,
Carlo would be dynamite with Chabot. Greer would be fantastic on a high energy 4th line.

he played injured

the reason they are open to moving him is if anyone overpays which makes sense. they need a quality D and a center both of which are hard to find
Maybe they are trying to sell high because they know the injury is expected to be chronic. If he's got bad mechanics causing meniscus damage this early in his career for example id be worried.

I think its as simple as they have

Mckenna
Nylander
Knies
Cowan

all on wing. Knies makes the most sense to move while also maximizing the return. I think they are only moving Knies for an overpayment like the 4th or 9th overall from current rumours so they can grab a defensemen

Terrible team blames defensive dman for their troubles when the entire team was a tire fire, where have I seen that before.
Boston fans also thought he was terrible. Go check their board

He is not a good choice to have in your top 4. If you can't move the puck in todays NHL you are cooked

He has declined over the years. He is probably passable as a 3rd pair but not with chabot in the top 4. Spence would do much better in that spot than him

Yeah essentially copying what he’s doing. Hopeful projection for one team and cynicism for another team.

Hey I get it, you 2 have taking turns shitting on the team and now you can’t stop. Keep going.
Crapping on the team? Not at all; it's called facing the facts. This team is middle of the road and will be for the foreseeable future.

What prospects? Yak is the only one that maybe has top 10 first round pick value. We absolutely should have traded him with the 9OA but we didn’t so now we’re back to square 1.

Yak + 25th probably gets us like Laf or MacTavish. Is that worth it? Maybe.
Doubt Mctavish is returning a prospect like Yak
