What has ownership and management done to build best in class? What have they done to change scouting at the amateur level where small market teams need to cook?

I think there are a lot of things Ottawa can do to build credibility but just not choose to do it. I mean look who our GM is someone who is heavily inexperienced. I think agents and players are a lot smarter now and look at teams from the top down. Canes are a good example of a team who might not be able to bring in big names but have done so well in scouting at all levels that also allowed them to draw in talent from free agency cause they built a foundation of consistently being in the playoffs

Our management is slow and prioritize the wrong things imo
I don't know that they've done much of anything, really.

I'm mostly in agreement. I'm not sure why there haven't been any changes to the amateur scouting staff. It seems so obvious that they aren't producing results, but Staios seemed to get genuinely offended on the few occasions when it was suggested that perhaps changes were required here. He's really gone to bat for Don Boyd and that crew for some reason.

I was also disappointed to see the GM job go to a nepo hire without any real search being carried out. It's crazy - the Senators organization hasn't done a genuine GM search in ~20 years! They booted Muckler to hand the keys to Bryan Murray. He passed it over to Pierre Dorion and the only other candidate at that time was the sex offender assistant GM. Andaluer buys the team and immediately puts his buddy from junior in charge. Not ideal.

I think a lot of fans and media are still in the honeymoon phase with Andlauer and Staios. Anybody who took over the club was going to get a lot of leeway just by virtue of how despised the previous regime was.

Now they're facing their first real test.
