Sure, but at what level does that turn into JR 2.0 with us throwing dumb amounts of assets at players that don’t really have any way of improving things?

I’d like EK from an entertainment standpoint but I in no way believe he’s going to make our coach and our mediocre roster into a contender.
I agree with this. I just don't think he makes us a top cup contender and not worth two firsts. The entertainment value would be great no doubt.

Not sure if that’s good or bad for us. Deangelo having pretty low value even at 50% might be at least a barometer for Karlsson’s value even though they’re not entirely comparable. On the other hand, it’s also a barometer for just how low Petry’s value could be too.

And with so much retention it doesn’t necessarily take Carolina out of the running for Karlsson.

I think DeAngelo loses value around the league because of his reputation with his personality, more than anything hockey related.
He was a +30 in Carolina before. Defense wasn't a problem. And he had 51 points in 64 games.
That's a Karlsson level stat line with much better defense at 2.5M lol...if he can do it again anyway...

At least if this is true they are valuing the defensemen correctly now..

Yeah he basically has his own limited movement clause with his behavior lol. He wouldn’t work in like the Seattle or Vancouver markets, has already flamed out of NY and I don’t see a guy like Dubas being interested in him even for free.

DeAngelo is a good deal at $2.5M …he’s a good point producer and can help their PP…I like what the Canes do…they haven’t won a Cup but I think their FO is smart

I was scalding the board, if that counts for anything.

Maybe you should make sure you are clear first....:naughty:

Up next Pesce to Nashville and TT/Skjei for more cap space and EK to Carolina, same with Lindholm and Hanafin.

That D will be loaded.

TDA is just a worse version of Karlsson who happens to also be a psychotic bigot. -edit- They're both neck and neck for the worst defensive defenseman in the league, just absolutely, unequivocally hot trash in their own zone.

f*** TDA.

Weren't you scolding the board earlier for comparing Dubas to past GM's?
I was scolding people for praising the guy for attempting to make a trade because Hextall wouldn’t.

The fan boys continue to compare the current GM to the previous one to try to make them look better than they are.

I honestly believe you could win the Cup with exclusively 30+ y/o's on the roster, especially now with where sports science is at.
But they have to be carefully chosen, with all the roles accounted for and play commensurate to their cap hit. Can't tie yourself up to ridiculous long term deals at fat AAV's for short term returns. You get those sneaky upside vets at near league minimum, and you get equivalent output to many ELC's.

I thought Sid was magnificent 2-way in 2018-19 at 31. That's the hardest I can remember him busting his ass for a season. That was not a great team around him at all. What a waste! :(
Malkin in 2019-20 after that summer training when he got totally ripped...the best 5v5 producer in the league at 32.
Letang was brilliant the previous 2 seasons at 33-35.

It just has to line up. Look at what we just got from Zucker at 30.
Acquisitions like Smith at ages 32 and 33 will surely be better than many good 25 year olds.

The only thing comparing 30ish guys to early -mid 20s guys is that they can’t go hard every night. You’re always going to get ebbs and flows in the season and there’s a way higher risk of them coming into the playoffs out of form or having niggles. It’s just an element of luck that having younger players shields you from. Injuries happen to everyone, but you don’t recover the same at 32 vs 22. Stating the obvious but yeah.

The more old dudes you have, the less likely your team is close to 100% in the playoffs and the easier you are to knock out when the games matter.

This EK sighting crap is the most alive the board has been in an offseason... and the dubber move combined make it double the activity.
