Legitimate topic fine but he's not going to be traded after 5 games just like he's not going to be waived. I don't care how overreactionary you want to be about it it's not going to happen so get over yourself and move on

I love how Rielly/Gardiner/Zaitsev/Carrick get so much hype in other threads, then when it comes to threads about Andersen the excuse to why he has been brutal is because of the defence.

Gardiner is off to a rough start. Looks good one minute then makes a mistake the next. Carrick is great offensivley but a train wreck defensivley. Zaitsev is prone to rookie mistakes and gets caught you can see he's used to having more time, and Rielly has been great, but can't cover everyone.

Auction for Andersen, what would you trade for him.

Really? The goalie that's currently making Pavelec look like a HOF goalie???

Andersen is on one of the worse streaks for a goalie in years and he just signed a big contract and long term.

By definition he holds a very big negative value. Completely untradable, no one would claim him for free.

serious response here:

His value is a lot less than the leafs paid right now. Not because he is off to a bad start (although it doesn't help) but because of teh time of year. there is no market for big money and term goalies during the season. teams do not have the room to just add that kind of salary without the same going back.

Sure some teams have injuries but the ideal replacement for them is expiring contacts with minimal money.

There is no market for Andersen right now, and the leafs obviously are not going to sell him low.

At this time, with that terrible contract, he has negative value.

when andersen was in anaheim his results were ok but they kept wanting another goalie to play ahead of him. this doesnt prove he sucks but it does prove hes a lower end goalie.

the guys anaheim put in front of anderson werent top 10 goalies.

so now what does this mean? any team that starts andersen has to expect that their opponent will get better goaltending... i mean in a playoff matchup. most if not all playoff teams will get better goaltending

so where does that leave fredrick andersen for trade value? hes in the same camp as guys like cam ward... steve mason... pavelec... kari ramo... johnathon bernier... the dallas 2 headed monster

any of these guys can get hot for 10-15 games and look great, but no team wants to rely on them as the starter at playoff time and for the most part they are too expensive to be backups... which kills their trade value

i think the only way to trade andersen is to take a goalie contract back

That's rather misinformed. They didn't "keep wanting another goalie" to play. There was an elite prospect who was at times pushing for starts, but Andersen kept winning the battles as long as he was healthy.

Who did they put in front of him? He himself won the starting job from Hiller. Gibson was getting some starts, being an elite prospect and all, but he was never really put in front of him, and those starts mostly came when Freddie was injured.

Toronto is horrible on D and should trade picks and forward to get a defense.

Lets break this post down.
1. Yes...the D is horrible.
2. No, they should not trade picks (at least high ones)
3. We should trade a forward for D, but not the kids. JVR/Bozak/Kadri...sure.

The best chance to get a good established top 4 guy will probably cost a low 1st and a real good young player who is not commanding a high salary. Right now it appeared from our recent game you may not have any top 4 D men, it was that bad.
No offence, but you are not going to get a top 4 guy for the players you want to trade.

Anderson played in front of a stacked defense and physical forwards who backcheck like maniacs on the Ducks. It will be a while before Toronto will have a good defense and in the meantime Andersen is kind of waste.

And so we continue to build via the draft. Burke isn't here anymore, so the days of trading the future for the now are thankfully gone.

Our defenseman last season
Lindholm top pair defenseman who has been called overrated by some
Fowler who according to some is a bottom pair defenseman defensively because of hero charts
Vatanen offensive defenseman
Manson in his 1st full season
Bieksa a bottom pair defenseman getting top 4 mins
Stoner bottom pair defenseman who no one want unless we trade what they know we don't want to trade with him
Despres still recovering from concussion and sucked when in the lineup
Holzer depth defenseman
Theodore who was a rookie

What stacked defense

Well, seeing how we are judging on a stupidly small sample size anyways, Andersen was excellent in tonights win...so i guess he's worth a ton now.
