Confirmed with Link: Frederic & Max Jones traded to Oilers for 2nd , 4th and Max Wanner

A black mark with Max Wanner was that he, along with 4 players, was suspended 44 games when he was in the WHL. Lankovic was one of the 4 players, and he could potentially be an option as the Bruins 1st round pick this year. There is no word on what they did to warrant 44 games.
Nothing criminal according to online, so I guess the hope that whatever he did was caused by immaturity and not by a lack of character?

Well it may have not been criminal but it had to be serious to warrant 44 games.

Oh there's word, but not going to be posted here.

Why McDrai likely see time with him and they don't have much forward dead weight.
He'll be lucky to beat out Janmark on the 3rd line. Probably won't be on the PP or PK. I believe they brought him in for his toughness and we all know he does have that anymore. Plus Hockey is #1 in Edmonton and get more Media attention that Boston.

Am I the only one disappointed in the trade? Yeh Freddy sucks this year but so does most of the team. I’m not saying I’m displeased to see him go but I would’ve thought a late 1st to be a possible return

Incorrect.

He played 44 games.

Suspended for 17. For non criminal breakage of team rules. Along with other teenagers.

42 nd overall ate chump change. You can get a decent player who might have been in the 1st round. This is where you can hit solid player.

gets the B`s into the 2nd round this year which is good, maybe a Brazz or Beecher gets a 4th rounder? I feel like this is a pretty solid haul for Freddy, good job Sweens

Wanner was rated as one of Edmonton's top 10 prospects from a few different sources:

The Athletic ( January 11 - 2025 ):

10. Maximus Wanner, RHD, 21 (Bakersfield Condors)

Wanner had a strong rookie season in the AHL last year, playing top-four minutes (18-19 per game). He has continued to play an important role this season as well, though he hasn’t taken a step per se. He’s very much a part of the picture for the Oilers organization now as they try to build him into a depth defenseman. Wanner’s a 6-foot-3, right-shot D who defends hard and plays a physical, competitive, hard-to-play-against style. He’s a strong athlete who moves well and plays an honest, what-you-see-is-what-you-get game. I thought about ranking him a couple of spots higher here. He’s more of a high-floor, low-ceiling player, though. There isn’t a lot of offense to his game and he projects as more of a third-pairing option or a No. 7/8.

McKeen's Hockey ( September 14 - 2024 ):

9. Max Wanner

Wanner put a year to forget behind him with a very solid freshman campaign in the AHL with Bakersfield. Wanner was limited to only 44 WHL games the previous year after being suspended indefinitely for an off-ice incident. However, his play on the ice has been largely positive, as the former seventh round pick has progressed incredibly well since being selected by Edmonton. The 6-foot-3, right-shot defender brings strong mobility, physicality, and great defensive instincts to the blueline. At the very least, he has excellent defensive upside at the NHL level as more of a steady, stay-at-home type. But he does have some offensive upside built around his ability to get pucks on net and his ability to make quick outlets to start the breakout. With another strong year in Bakersfield, Wanner likely puts himself in the conversation for a roster spot in Edmonton.

Neutral Zone ( October 27 - 2024 ):

6. Max Wanner (D, 6’3″, 196, Moose Jaw Warriors, 03/12/2003)

  • Strengths: Strong skater with a physical edge, effective in one-on-one battles. Shows promising puck-moving ability and can make safe, accurate passes.
  • Weaknesses: Can be prone to turnovers under pressure; needs to improve decision-making speed.
  • Focus: Refining hockey sense under pressure, particularly in defensive-zone exits.
  • Potential Role: Bottom-four, shutdown defenseman who can play on the penalty kill.

Daily Faceoff ( July 22 - 2024 ):

7. Max Wanner, RHD, 21 (Bakersfield, AHL)

Acquired: Drafted 212th overall, seventh round in 2021

Many people I’ve talked to are really impressed with Wanner’s progress. He’s primarily a shutdown defenseman, but scoring seven goals as a rookie defenseman who has never been too offensively inclined is quite solid. He’s big and mobile and has already played significant minutes despite being one of the youngest players on the Condors. I expect him to play at least another year in Bakersfield, but I think he could step into some NHL games this year without being a liability. The fact many think he could go from being a seventh-rounder to an impact NHLer shows how far he has come in his development.

Wanner in town a few years back if it`s the same kid who played for Moosejaw? Sorry, at work, can`t look it up, moved the puck well, he was a big kid but skinny at that time, pretty solid player if I recall correctly

From the start of this season Edmonton Journal had him as their #4 prospect and his scouting report sure sounds like backfill for a Carlo sized hole on the right side of the defense.

He is a very physical and intimating defender and, while he’s not without some puck skills and offensive instincts, his NHL calling card is hard and aggressive shutdown defence.
The fact that Wanner was able to take a regular shift from his first game as a Condor, play a decent amount of high leverage minutes as the season progressed and go on a real roll on the PK in his 20-year old rookie pro season is a very encouraging arrow.
While he is likely a good year away from a serious shot an NHL employment (Keith Gretzky did use the word “raw” about 5 times when describing Wanner earlier this off-season), he is the exact type of player that the Oilers need roaming the 3RD on the team for the next decade. Wanner skates well for a big-man and isn’t shy to put the puck on net. Think a young and raw Jason Smith.
Still with miles to go, but he could be the top right shot shut-down d-man for the Condors’ by year’s end – passing some real competition in Phil Kemp and Josh Brown

Im not , but it's better than the letting him walk for nothing. We can't draft so hopefully we will use these two picks on someones scrub to help said team get a player that can actually help a team win.

DS is a disaster waiting happen AGAIN

Good work, and I emphasize work, from Sweeney. It must have taken a lot to pull together the moving parts here. He got good value for TF. Edit: this also signals a sell off as they moved a good prospect in Lachance presumably to get a mid second rounder.

Bruins never owned Lachance, he was the Devils' property.

nobody paying for a player who is week to week, having a shit year in his contract year with a 1st round pick, this, for me, is a very solid first move
