Prospect Info: Fraser Minten

Agree - other than the Marchand who inexplicably blew up a portion of his image here being greedy and foolish walking away from $18.9 M a huge overpay by Boston

Minton should be somewhere in the top 9
Made goal scorer’s moves in his natural Hattie. Very impressive indeed. How about a roster slot for a few games as a preview of what’s to come.

Rough Monday, eh? 😂

Overall agree Minton looks like the makings of a productive middle 6 player, which is a positive. However, the current team and prospect pool is littered with middle 6 players. Hoping for management to swing big for top line talent in the draft and free agency this summer.

I like his overall game and am confident in his NHL future, but I'd really caution people to not project him as any sort of higher offense guy at the NHL level.
Based on what I have seen, you are spot on.
He should be good for 15-20 goals a year.
With him/Potsy and CM now, we have our second, third and fourth line centers.

Is Heinen a good comp for Minten? Slightly better Heinen? If he ends up a 3rd line Swiss Army knife who can effectively play the PK it’s a good return.

From the scouting reports out there, consensus outlook makes him sound like kind of a lesser version of Coyle. Much of his game sounds similar to Coyle’s, but with less expected offense. So basically a solid but not high end 3C.

I watched him live last week. My biggest concern is his skating. Average at best. To me his biggest asset is the hockey IQ thing. He doesn’t have the strength, skating, and puck possession ability of a Coyle. He could get there. Still young.

Hopefully he's better than this years version of Coyle. Coyles best attribute is puck posetion but he usually skates around in circles and when cornered makes a I'll advised pass, usually to no one which ends up being a 2 or 3 on 1 and now he's too tired to back check. Oh and he usually drops his stick or falls down for no reason as soon as he loses the puck. No great loss, I like Mittlestad better and when we get our 2 best Dmen back, Potsy and Minten up we will be fine.

We’ve seen guys his size like Kevan Miller and Frederic vastly improve their skating in their early to mid 20s, so there is hope he can address that.

They love him in Colorado. His troubles this year are no different in comparison to the entire team. Any team missing 2 top pairing D will struggle. Coyle played against the best lines, played PK and PP. Ironman that was playing too much hockey.

That's a poor return for Carlo, who brings a unique and coveted skillset. A low first rounder that might not amount to anything doesn't move the needle for me.

Perhaps, but I am quite sure the Bruins did not choose to do Toronto or Carlo a favor by giving him to the Maple Leafs for a discount. So I have no doubt Toronto made the best offer, and wouldn't be surprised if it was the best offer by a substantial amount. So we can suggest we think Carlo was more valuable than this, but it seems the NHL didn't agree. It's certainly possible that if they waited until summer the offer might have improved, but entirely possible it wouldn't have

From a leafs fan

Minten having an amaizing hockey IQ and playing a gritty game but not necessairly skill to contribute a lot offensively so he would basically be a 3rd C in NHL.

My comparaison would be Lars Eller. 25-40 pts physical 2 way center

If he turned into Eller type I would be very happy. I think he may have a little better hockey IQ than Eller, so ceiling may be higher.
