This guy has really impressed me the last couple of games. Finds space and isn't shy to shoot the puck with purpose. He skating is much better than I expected as well. He made an excellent back check last game which must endear him to Clode. He and Czarnik are going to be a deadly duo for the baby B's but I could see him getting his feet wet with the big club very soon.

I think he will see games in the NHL this year. He had a great burst of speed to create a 2-1 yesterday. He's strong on the puck , and he can finish. He has the skillset and pedigree of a late first/high second round draft pick. I think he is as good a prospect as DeBrusk and Senyshen.

Great to see. Local kid and him playing in Prividence. Springfield is going to have a big presence from east longmeadow. Cool. I will be there to root for him.

Im pumped for Vatrano. Im so pissed off I can't watch any of yesterdays game yet (not on gamecentre yet) but I really hope this kid can make it with his shot, he is a pure sniper.

Whats his ceiling? Haven't watched him at length yet.
With the shot he displayed in the shootout, tonight, pretty high. It has been a long time since we have seen anyone on this team with the ability to snipe the top corner from there in what for him was a pressure situation. Haven't seen enough of him to evaluate him further but man that was impressive!

I gave a pretty long synopsis of him in the Prospect thread a week or so ago.

Reader's Digest version...kid has a pretty good pedigree. He played for the USNTDP program and had good numbers in the U-17 and U-18 tournaments. He went to BC, had some academic issues and ended up at UMass Amherst for a season (had 18 goals) before turning pro with BOS.

Has always had a lot of natural ability, real nice kid, but the knock was his off season training and dedication. B's supposedly talked to him about that after the PRO season ended, and he looks like he took it to heart. Slimmed down and looks much faster without losing anything off that deadly shot.

I have no idea what his "ceiling" is, but he is a sniper (underrated passer) with a natural nose for the net. Could see him being one of PB's better scorers and getting some games this year in Boston.

He's my pick for the first Providence player getting a call-up this season.

What a sniper. I didn't even see the puck leave his stick in the shootout all I saw was the back of the net getting tuned. He would be really useful on the PP. I hope he gets a few games in this season. So far this pre season there is a lot to like about our young guys.

Griffith all over again.

Maybe a hair better.

Griffith knows how to score. He doesn't necessarily have an elite shot.

This kid's shot is up there with the best. A more apt comparison would be Fraser. You can already tell that this kid has WAY more to his game than Fraser though, that is for sure.

This kid's ceiling is limitless with a shot like that. However, the chances of him being anymore than a Ryder type are low, but that is a pretty good pickup for a free agent signing, right?

Not bad.

A lot of our wingers right now I sort of feel like would be great bottom 6 guys but will struggle on the top two lines. There might be an opportunity here for the kid to step into a much larger role and be a Pasternak-like surprise albiet not right now or at least until some wingers falter. Great snipe last night.

I don't think it will be this year he helps us. At least not regular season or early on he should probably get 50+ games in Prov on a top line with plenty of PP time. Give him a full season in Providence and maybe he has a Landon Wilson type impact in the playoffs.

Agreed. I don't think anyone would fault Sweeney for taking a risk on a kid with nice offensive upside in a situation teetering on collapse.

It's the trying the same damn thing and expecting a different results that infuriates us more than anything. Give him a shot; if it works you look like a genius and if not, at least you tried something.

I will respectfully disagree with this well thought out analysis.

As will I. No great insight, but hope he gets a chance. He's better than Seth Griffith, and things aren't as desperate (yet) as last year per multiple, simultaneous injuries. He won't be forced onto the first line, ala SG.

I actually hope the third line is changed. It's early, yes, but I don't sense any sparks. Three guys all with something to prove; maybe each would benefit from a change.

Again, it's early, but getting anxious about Connolly. With Marchand out, he'll have a chance with Patrice. I would have liked him to get a chance with #37 & #63 to begin the season, because his offensive upside is potentially greater than Eriksson's. Could be wrong but don't expect Connolly to do much with LE on that line; not exactly a playmaker.

Watched this kid at UMass. He was one of our best players for sure there.

Always battled hard with his stocky short frame. Foot speed wasn't there though, but it looks like he's worked hard on it.

Hope he can improve and make the team!

He should be given a once around the league look in the AHL before coming up. Upstairs is in a little mess at the moment. Already.

Irwin played at UMass, did you get to see him?
