Always been a guy that scores a bunch quick and then nothing for awhile and this year he is double his normal shooting percentage.

How is he a top scorer with his 8 pts?

Zegras seems too concerned with Michigan type plays then actually being a really good player.
Oddbob seems too concerned with inventing bad takes without watching people play then actually having an informed opinion.

If he scores 50 goals this year, he will be the biggest surprise 50 goal scorer of all time.

But why did the Bruins, Rangers and Panthers give up so easy on this guy? He looks like a legit elite sniper out there this year.

He actually looked really good in NY and in Florida.

Bruins moved on because he was too one dimensional. He had a weird development path and missed on how to actually play hockey. At the time, the Bruins didn’t have the patience for him to learn at the NHL level. And at the AHL level his shot was too good for him to learn the good habits. Very glad he has carved out a solid NHL career, but there is no gnashing of teeth in Boston over it.

Frankie has been awesome but don‘t expect him to continue to pace like this, so need guys like Terry, Killorn, and Henrique to get going, and need Zegras back healthy, as well.

That line of Vatrano - McTavish - Strome has been very good, but sadly the only consistent scoring line for the Ducks.

He has an incredible shot and can be a “finishing piece” on a line. Rangers didn’t “pass” on him as much as they only had him as a rental and then didn’t want to extend him due to already limited cap space.

I think every fanbase he’s played for has loved him though. He’ll cool off but can still score some big goals.

He’s playing with Strome who is another incomplete, but offensively talented player.

Even if he doesn't score 50 this year, I think he will definitely score 40-45. Mainly because he's a key piece in Anaheim and he is given every opportunity to produce offensively. Who here ever saw Vatrano as a 40 goal scorer in his career?Probably nobody.

I definitely felt like he had potential to be up there if he was given real power play time on a unit designed to give him shooting chances. He was never given any real PP opportunities with the Panthers.

You give him open space in a scoring position on a regular basis, pucks are going in the net.

I love looking at the league leaders list at the moment. Bunch of names that aren't normally up there. Fun to see new faces and oft-forgotten guys having good years.

Frank Vatrano, who would have thought?

WTF, I assumed this was an exaggeration, but he's actually sitting on 2 points in 12 games. What's happening over there?
Missed all of training camp and still working the rust. He actually has looked really good at both ends of the ice, just massively snake bitten.

Terry actually looks way worse then Z, but he isn’t snake bitten.

He hasn't played in weeks. He and Drysdale are both on the shelf with injuries.
Well....he hasn't played in 12 days....I suppose in another couple days, not playing in "weeks" would be technically accurate, but still somewhat misleading....it's not like he has 2 pts in 3 games because he's been gone for so long, he has played 12 games and only has 2pts. Still a small sample size, but pretty invisible production to date.

From what I remember in Boston, he had a deceptively quick shot, good speed...but nothing else. Was on his ass a lot, not a good player anywhere on the ice unless the puck was on his stick with an open shooting lane. In and out of the lineup with a different cast of characters every time. It's hard to stand out in those situations I suppose.

That shot though. Happy to see him succeeding at the moment, but 50 seems like quite a stretch. At some point the shots dont go in and he will end up shooting less.

I was channel surfing last night and saw a "Mr. October" documentary on Reggie Jackson listed. That made me chuckle since "Mr. October" used to be a derogatory nickname used for hockey players who got off to quick starts and faded.

In particular I seem to recall Brian Savage having that nickname after a couple of big Octobers. Looking up Savage's 1999-00 season:

Savage: 18 games played, 12 goals, 7 assists, 22.6% shooting percentage
Vatrano: 18 games played, 12 goals, 6 assists, 19.4% shooting percentage

Savage missed time with injury, but he scored 5 goals in his final 20 games.

Because besides his scoring, he just dissapears, if he is not scoring

He is was hardly mentioned during the broadcast in Florida, he was well liked and far from being a well-rounded player. Many were not happy when he left and we are all glad he is finding success.
