Verbeek is a horrible GM, he really didn't trade this dude who was having a career year last year on a great contract with a year remaining. He could have gotten so much, this year he will get a mid round pick and a C prospect

In what world would he fetch that? Look at every deadline and middle 6 wingers with goal scoring upside are something every team wants.

If they can get him for that then I will totally be happy with it.

But lets be honest, someone is going to offer him 5 mil in UFA, especially if he gets 30 goals again.
I’d gladly give him 5 even 6. Goals don’t grow on trees and he contributes in a lot of other ways. The term though is somewhere we need to be firm though.

He was 21st in goals last year. Everyone in the top 40 made 6m or more last year or just signed a new deal for 6+ except 2 players (Johnston and Sharangovich).

He is scoring less this year because of a terribly unlucky start and is now back to scoring more. He’s a legit 30 goal scorer.

I’d trade him at the deadline and then look to move up in the draft like we did last year and then use those funds to try to get the best winger in Free Agency.

If the young guys continue to slowly improve and we can get a 1st or 2nd line winger in FA + add Colangelo and Sennecke, the roster is starting to really come around. The young defensive players also continue to improve.

At worst he gets a 2nd+3rd based on what Toffoli got last year

It's tough for teams like Anaheim in FA. The cap going up is going to make it where a lot of teams are going to be in play for FAs, including playoff teams. Also cap floor teams are going to be going after guys to keep up with the floor.

The "best winger" a team like the Ducks may be able to sign will likely be well down the list of "best wingers available," at least until they start moving up in the standings. How many impact FAs sign with rebuilding teams? Even from the tier of players that they're likely to be picking from, odds are you gotta give up a lot of AAV or term to win the bid, because other cap floor rebuilding teams will be interested too.
