Francois Allaire and Patrick Roy reunited. Deal in principle has been reached. Allaire tells me the desir to work w/ Roy was very appealing.

Varly is the one player on our team where even when he struggles i honestly don't get supremely pissed about him. cause i knew he was mercurial when he came in and thought we were gonna have a goalie coach in his ear all the time.

He maybe Russian so it does not come out as much, but you can tell he has so much drive and compete. I loved when he was talking to the media after shootouts, and admitted he hated shootouts.

Hes really honest, and seems to wear is heart on his sleeve.

He'll be fine, hes young, and should hit his prime sometime in the next couple years.

i definitely agree. he will be a big time player for us and i think he has a little Roy in him.

how often was kirk mclean with our goalies? what happened when he wasn't there? would the goalies just partake in drills standing in the net?

The idea that with the freed up time for Allaire, he will spend it scouting goalie prospects, and will be involved in the final draft rankings is certainly quite interesting. Hopefully this could lead to the Avs maybe becoming a bit of a goalie factory like Anaheim and SJ were in the last decade.

I'll say one thing about the spending habits of the Kroenke's. Between Joe's new promotion, Roy's big contract, and Allaire's likely big deal, they sure seem to have spent an awful lot on management and the coaching staff this summer. Good to see that kind of commitment to bringing in the right people to mold your franchise and young players. Perhaps the biggest missing key to this franchise in the last decade.

With Aittokallio, Pickard, Patterson, and Millan in the system. I believe with the addition of Allaire and his system, we're certainly in position to become that. Find it odd you name SJ as a goalie factory. I always thought they had trouble with goalies.

Did I miss the part where he will help scouting as well? Read everything in the first post and didn't see it, so wasn't sure.

In the early part of the last decade, they had some pretty good to decent NHL goalies come out of there.

Kiprusoff, Nabokov, Nittymaki, Thomas Greiss.

This post.....

Hearing now that Allaire will implement a new goalie coaching system. He will have an assistant coach to coach with him only for the goalies. Hearing, that this is a system that Allaire always wanted to bring in an organization to save time to be able to scout prospects for the draft and to have a better developpment of the goalies.

It snuck past me too, getting the last post of a page syndrome.

A supervisory role

According to information obtained by the 98.5 fm, he wanted to add this to his mentor that the mandate of Allaire is more that of a supervisor than just a coach, which involves hiring an assistant working under his orders.

According to our expert hockey Dany Dubé, this is a dream qu'Allaire Plan to implement for several years. The idea is to free up time to develop a parallel structure to the draft plan and the development of the guardians of the organization.

"Having an assistant helps him to see the guards to give its recommendations. He will be involved in the final decision in the ranking (of draft-eligible guards), "argues Dubé.

First two I agree with. Last two I'm not so sure about. Fair enough though. I don't know, when it comes to goalie factory I expect more I guess.

Well in terms of finding goalies that can at least play in the NHL. Nittymaki had a few strong years, and Greiss has fallen off a bit but looked a little promising for a while.

Compare their results to what the Avalanche has done. They've got Aebi (who had one good NHL season and is out of the NHL) and an ok backup in Budaj.

I'm really, really not discouraged about the negativity associated with his tenure in Toronto. I mean, without even diving into the power struggle that was going on with Ron Wilson and his own staff, I'll leave it at this... I'll take 24 years of work with 3 Stanley Cups, 3 Vezinas, and 2 Conn Smythe winners under his belt over his brief stint with the mess here in Toronto.

Wasn't he Roy's goalie coach for a while? I'm positive I've read it somewhere, and I didn't see it mentioned in here.

I think he coached Roy at goalie camp for a week or something when Patrick was but a wee little bonhomme du carnival.

TPS: have you gotten any word from your homies about what they think of all the changes this off-season?

I made a decision about a month ago to not post anything else I get from friends, so I'll just be a fan like everybody else here. I'd hope they are as excited as we are. ;)

:sarcasm:

In all seriousness, I understand why you made that decision...it was just nice to get the little bits that you were giving us.
