This is a talent showcase for the NHL. There is nothing sacred about this tournament.

They should just let him play for the betterment of the game and the league; however, they could at least let the team being "wronged" make the decision. I'm sure the Canadian team would want to face the best possible lineup: all these guys want to win with no excuses.

We're out here acting like they are changing a salary cap rule mid-season in the NHL v. letting a guy who is no longer injured replace a guy that is now injured.

And as a talent showcase that everyone is paying attention to, they would have been shooting themselves in the dick with the optics of letting the USA ignore that rule while making sure Canada stuck to it earlier.

I agree with your second point to a degree

What a f***ing OT that was, leave it to Jack Hughes to absolutely blow it at the end and be invisible the whole tourney. Binnington with 3 unreal saves in OT, I noticed Doughty didn't mob McD but went towards Binner on the celly. Of f***ing course McJesus scores on the winner because who else would? Would've been interesting to see if M. Chukf*** would've been a difference maker if fully healthy, I reckon he would've probably turned the tide in the US's favor. Also, we must trade for Sam Bennett like now, what a beast of a player, absolutely clutch.

I think those teams are close enough that the missing (and visibly sick) players on both sides were a total shame.

But as an appetizer for the World Cup and Olympics, holy shit, mission accomplished

The casual isn't going to know who Quinn Hughes is, but he is a guy that can jump off the screen.

For a league that basically has zero impact on popular culture in the U.S., they should take advantage of it to its fullest when they get the rare chance to do so.

Worst thing that happens is that the U.S. wins, Canadians cry about letting Hughes play and they talk about conspiracies on how Bettman hates Canada and wants U.S. teams to win etc...like they already do.

NHL isn't going to lose fans in Canada over letting Hughes play. Maybe it does nothing for gaining fans in the States by letting him play. You've just got a better chance of the latter than the former so go for it.

Best case scenario for the NHL was a U.S. win last night. Should have let him play, although we were so close to a "puck don't lie" moment since Sanderson scored.

Faber was immaculate last night, you would think routinely shutting the best player in the world down while leading your team in minutes played in the game and over the course of the tournament wouldn't earn childish "oh yeah but he gave the puck away once" comments from the peanut gallery, but its not surprising.

Faber and Slavin were lights out on D, Fox not so much. It hurts watching Faber succeed and play at a high level while being so young, all while not with the Kings. We literally had our future Doughty replacement in the wings and then bam, traded for Fiala. Sacrificed the whole future of the franchise for some guys that barely move the needle in the grand scheme. Blake singlehandedly restocked the Jets depth and made them a better team as well.

Gonna be one of the things that sucks in the inevitable housecleaning

We have this great drafting department that we didn't even get the benefit of stocking the league, and then they'll be fired and kill it for someone else. Double whammy.
