Tkachuk is funny, he talks more than Crosby, Mackinnon and McDavid combine :)
But it's entertaining though  He might be the missing piece on the Jets team ;)

Funny... I don't see any reference to xGF, CF%, etc when talking about this tourney (although it could just be my ignore list doing it's job lol)

This is what being an NHL fan used to be like. No stupid arguments about stupid stats. Just watching hockey, cheering for your team and hating your rival

Someone may stumble along to mention "sample size", but that would probably underscore my point
The reason buffdog blocked me is that at this time i would point out that yes it is because of sample size because thats clearly how statistics and models work... but luckily i see i still live in his head rent free.

And yes if this team ONLY used adv stats to pick the team we would have Thompson, Weegar and Scheifele on the team... but they picked it like the 'old days' i guess

Snowflakes can't handle our spreadsheets...

Things to take from this game
>>no injuries for our guys and a win for Josh and company

Things to take from this tournament
>>Josh - to showcase his game to the rest of the world. He has been good

>>Kyle - I was disappointed that he did not raise his game. However, I blame the coaching for this as they were worried more about the Kachooks and Rod Jeremy, Jr than anyone else

>>Connor - I would hope that this tournament raises his game and mostly his mentality to each game, especially come playoff time

I might be in the minority but I'm not all that enthusiastic about this tournament and the outcome. I was a bit charged up by the antics of the Tkachuk and Miller Captain America schtick, but that was temporary.

At this point I'm just hoping that Hellebuyck, Morrissey and Connor don't get injured, regardless of the outcome.

I'm not at all worried about Connor's minimal role and impact. If he's flying below the radar it might moderate his next contract level, which will likely be negotiated this summer.
My thoughts on this is i don't really like anything that compresses and breaks up the season. I'd rather give players a week off.

However the nhl is dead set on doing something so I'd rather this that actually has something to cheer for than an all star game that I don't even bother with.

I think the way Connor has been played/ used is serendipitous for us. He's not getting overplayed, and maybe it helps somehow in our next contract negotiations. I do feel bad for Kyle though. He's a hell of a hockey player and should get more acclaim.

Good summary.

I don’t really blame anyone for KC it’s just this format and the style of play does not suit his game. Coaches made the right move bumping him down the line up vs Canada and if all the forwards are healthy Krieder might draw in tonight in his place. Kyle needs to score to be effective and to score he needs a bit of time and space and that is just not available in this format “yet”. Kyle is not alone this has been tough on some of the other forwards too.

I wandered over to the main board to see what was getting said about Morrissey and honestly I haven’t seen many comments on his play. However, what I have seen is pretty much every Canadian fan who is also the pretend GM has him penciled into the top 4 for the Olympics. That is high praise in a backhanded way. Josh has looked great in this tournament and certainly one of Canada’s top 3 best D men.

Helle has been rock solid but he needs to have a good night tonight because the final is going to define this tournament. If Helle has a good game he becomes known as a very good “go to” international goalie. If he has a rough night it builds on his legacy of not being able to get it done when it really counts.

Same thing goes for the coaching staffs and the dreaded Hockey Canada. They win tonight and the end justifies the means………lose and they endure the ENDLESS “I told you so” you useless bums, from the never wrong from the cheap seats Canadian hockey fans until the puck I drops at the Olympics.

Listening to both coaching staffs round tables its pretty apparent this is a big deal to them. They all understand the history and know that tonight is going to be another chapter.

Really looking forward to see how Canada adapts and changes it up.

In one post you've singlehandedly converted me to being in favour of this little mini-tournament mid-season.

You would think with 2 powerhouse forwards, like McDavid and Mackinnon, other teams wouldn’t stand much of a chance, and add great defencemen like Makar, and Morrissey,Team Canada should easily win this game.

I guess the only way to beat these guys, is to play a very tight defensive game, and wait for some breaks.

I only wish Team Canada had a better Goalie in net, and they’d be a complete team. This Binnington allows shots to go right thru him - not good.

I remain against playing this or the Olympics in season. I would switch to the summer Olympics, and do the World Cup in the fall right before the season. They play basketball in the summer Olympics and that is a winter sport in the NBA and in Europe. Hockey is routinely played in 100 degree heat in Florida, Texas, Carolina, LA in May and June. I don't think playing it in season is good for the NHL Schedule.

I am 100% there on no injures. Too many players have gone down, or been banged up in the tournament already.

I am enjoying the hockey so far. I was skeptical coming in but the players are very into it and the level of skill is so much higher. I forgot how good best on best is when they care.

As to Connor I think this experience will help him in the playoff this season. He and Scheifele need to find another level or we are going nowhere in the playoffs. Last season they had a great first game but then they were a non factor as we got steamrolled the next 4 strait. I believe Connor (and the team) will have a better playoffs this year.

I am not that worried about KC’s contract. Chevy will find a way to get it done.

I am looking forward to the final tonight and yea don’t get injured boys.

Football tends to have various in season breaks for international play/champions league type stuff.

I don't really have much issue in some breaks to the season for this. But perhaps two week breaks is a bit much. Maybe have the world cup like Championsleague where you have 5 day off breaks and have a couple games resume the season and in another month another number of games. Have the final latest in the year.

As for the hockey, it's been really good and I've enjoyed it. Also the players have loved it unlike the Allstars game.

I oppose anything that increases HRR while the league remains corrupted by NTC/NMCs so on principle I have to oppose this tournament happening in the future.

I have been very surprised by the play in this tournament, thought the players would really try not to get injured. It's been good hockey to watch, waaaaaaaaaaay better than the allstar games. Now having said that if one of our Jets gets hurt i will be super pissed that we lose one of our best players during this incredible Jets season we are having for this little tournament.

Seriously I'm so sick of hearing about stats. I don't need stats to prove to me player A is better than player B ... my. eyes tell me. I can always tell which poster watched the game and who didn't just by their comments or if they are bias.
Here's a question if player A scores 30 goals but 25 of them are against bottom feeders and against good teams he disappears ... is that a good player or bad player?

HOLY SMOKE!!!

Am i so torn apart for this CANADA vs USA finals.

I want Helly to do so well here, but i want Canada to win also!

ARgggg!!!!

if Helly losses and KC , will it demoralize them OR makes them more hungry to win the CUP.
Hopefully more hungry to win the cup this year...
The yare pros this will only make them hungrier. If it has any other impact, win or lose, I would be surprised.
Although KC has kinda been invisible this tourney.
