Some 5 head level thinking about benching Hellebuyck after he gets beaten once on a deflection in the 1st period.

Great motivation to stay off the main boards through this tournament. People see what they want to see to hype up their NHL team's players and trash their perceived rivals'.
There were a couple of posters from our board that went on there to say playoff Hellebuyck is playing. Shameful if you ask me.
But then again, one of them is a Toronto Maple Leaf fan and thinks they're going to win the cup.

Matinpalo has only played two more games than Heinola on a team with shittier defence depth. Still, I didn't realize Finnish defensive depth was so thin.

Yeah, Parayko and Doughty shouldn't have been on this team — I'd go for Rielly, Dobson, Bouchard before any of those. Seems like they picked those two because they like their "style" of game.

Cirelli/Hagel seem like nepo picks to me (with Cooper behind the bench). Bennett was probably picked to counteract the Tkachuks. I will say I was impressed by Hagel the other night. He does all the little things right and is actually having a good season, too.

Still, I'd be taking Barzal and Scheifele for sure. Probably Bedard too. They could've done so much more to stack this team instead of trying to find guys to fit specific roles again.

Edit: Dobson and Barzal are hurt now I realize, but I don't think they were when the roster was announced.

Barzal has been injured a good chunk of the year and hasn't been good when playing. I don't mind leaving him off. His performance wasn't good enough this season.

Some suggesting that Connor should be benched from Team USA. I don't really see a downside, from a Jets perspective.
Whenever Team USA slights Kyle Connor:

Ah, gotcha.

The level of the respective competition in each game means nothing to you, I guess.

Sweden has a dynamic forward group and arguably (for some) has the best defense in the tournament. Finland is quite clearly the distant fourth participant in this equation. Again, their defense barring injury would be on speed dial to Ville Heinola. The only thing less than ideal would be the way Saros played. Woof.

Anyways, it's pretty silly to summize Canada, who still has Sidney Crosby, let alone the top three active players in the NHL, is going to get "crushed" by anybody in this tournament.

Tomorrow night should be a great game.

I don't think Sweden and Finland are that far off from each other. I think the US has the best defence in the tournament, and that's even without Quinn Hughes, the goaltending we all know from being Jets fans is superior than Hill or Binnington, and the forward group is probably advantage Canada. I think the US wins by 3.

Come on, dude.

Even if we wash the forward groups and goaltending (Saros is being benched for Lankinen, by the way) - you tell me which defense, gun to your head, you'd be taking in a single game elimination:

Lindell
Mikkola
Maatta
Jokiharju
Vaakainen
Matinpalo

/

Hedman
Brodin
Ekholm
Karlsson
Dahlin
Forsling

I have no doubt that Finland will be up for the game tomorrow; it's their most bitter rival, after all, but let's not be disingenuous now.

Anyways, enjoy the games tomorrow, and Go Canada. Hope they avoid getting embarrassed tomorrow night.

On D, sure, Sweden is pretty solid. I don't think the forwards have much to choose between them and the Finnish D did alright until Saros folded. I do think Sweden wins but it should be tight.

I thought the US was dominating the Finns through the first 2 periods. The 3rd period was just those chickens coming home to roost.

Knew who you were talking about but i went and looked at the GDT anyway . Just don't understand fans like that especially after years of Pavelec goaltending .

I also hope Hellebuyck does better in the playoffs, but this fanbase will be EXTREMELY spoiled with regards to the goaltending levels they expect day in and day out when Hellebuyck's play falls off or he retires. The level of play he has delivered in the regular season since he entered the league simply isn't matched by many goalies in history.

Luckily, I was a Thrashers fan while you all hopped around the NHL bandwagon to whatever team had the best goalie.:D

The Thrashers' best goalie was the fat and injured version of Kari Lehtonen.
