World Cup: Four Nations Tournament-Team Canada

Usa has the tkachuk boys,jt Miller and kreider,trocheck,Nelson and larkin plus eichel,it sure makes me want to have Tom wilson in the lineup. I remember when Keith tkachuk and otto and a few others started really banging but we had guys that could do that too,now we are relying on Bennett to be that guy.but hey I know that's not hockey any more and as many people said this will be pond hockey,so I'm probably in the minority.

I don’t think this is going to be a problem for you guys. Crosby, MacKinnon, Doughty etc are all psycho competitors. US has a number of soft players who offset the Tkachuks. Plus we don’t have a crease-clearing D like Parayko.

I don’t think this will be pond hockey at all. Maybe the first few games. Good defense usually beats good offense and Canada has better two-way guys up front.

I don’t think they do. Who are they? Reinhart and marner are good two way guys. Stone, Marchand aren’t quite what they used to be imo. Crosby, Mackinnon and McDavid never were that good defensively, and Crosby is just bad now.

Seems pretty evenly matched as far as two way play from the forwards.

I don’t think it’ll be pond hockey, either. All the players seemed excited for this tourney. You could see them ramping up their games as it approached. US vs Canada on a Saturday night in Montreal....it’s gonna get serious

Although, as a fan of a team with 8 players involved, in a way I’d be down with some pond hockey with all star game level intensity. :dunno:

That's enough for me right there.

But point taken: Brayden Point(!) would be the 4th C if Cooper didn't decide to put Mack & Sid together. Point, 4th on the depth chart at C ... We're spoiled in Canada.

As for the blueline and in net, I'm not worried.
Hill has led his team to a Cup (so has Binnington). No other team has a Cup-winning goalie (on quick look, if I'm mistaken someone please correct me). On D Pietrangelo is a big loss but Doughty (who would've made the original roster if not injured) is a great add, they'll be fine.
That's insane lol Bergeron was the #1 Defensive C and he would be 4th liner.

I think monty is there because he won with canada last summer. Not expecting him to play with. That says, it does worry me a little that these are our best. Patrick Roy had sparked a generation or two of goalies, but canadian goalies are on the decline now.

I get why they arent there, but Russia would have a hell of a team this year.

Over a point per game on a losing team is considered bad? Come on.

um, Mark Stone is still the best defensive winger in the NHL. Not sure what you mean by he’s slowed down. Crosby and Marchand have certainly slowed down, but I’m sure they’ll step up defensively for a tournament like this.

Cirelli is quite easily a top-5 shutdown center in the league. Reinhart and him will likely finish high in this year’s Selke voting. Hagel is one of, if not the best forechecker in this entire tournament. Seth Jarvis is also breaking out and likely winning a Selke at some point in his career (he literally plays on all 4 lines on the Canes).

The US has solid 2-way guys in Larkin, Trochek and Kreider. Larkin is probably their best asset. I don’t think Trochek and Kreider are better 2-way guys than say a Mark Stone or Sam Reinhart though. As a Canucks fan, JT Miller is extremely overrated defensively, good when he wants to be. I will admit, Jack Eichel is similar to a Toews offensively and a defensive stud, so the US certainly has that over Canada

The US rounded out with roster with more skilled offensive guys and Canada rounded it out with better 2-way players. I don’t know how you can say that Canada Does NOT have the best defensive forwards this tournament.

I didn't see a thread, but here's the first six players named:

* McDavid
* MacKinnon
* Makar
* Marchand
* Point
* Crosby
You started this thread not knowing it would end up being the official Team Canada Four Nations thread

I guess I’ll take your word for it with stone. My viewings of him have not been favorable in a while but maybe he just has an off night when I watch him a lot. I’ve been a fan of his game for a long time fwiw.

Matthews, defensively, is better than any Canadian center at this point. He looks better every year to me. You didn’t even mention him.

Actually it is good it does not participate, because as Russian I have a unique chance to root for some other team once in a lifetime.

And as a Tampa fan I chose Canada because of the coach + 3 players.

I have to say it feels weird, but it's gonna be fun.

Russia couldn’t even medal best on best with a prime malkin and ovie…

What would an american defense pairing of Putin - Trump command for a countermeasure. What players do Team Canada put on the ice?
