It was weird watching team USA sit on that lead in the third Pens style but unlike the Pens they easily shut it down. I guess having Hellebuyck and that team helps. Canada had no answers.

The US were more physical than Canada and just as fast. The Penguins are rarely more physical than their opponents because they're trying to be faster and its hard to do both in the NHL, and they're rarely as comparatively fast they want to be either.

There can be a question of whether a different style would help a less talented team, but at this point the talent level looks like there's not a whole lot that'd help it.

And then there's the question as to how much Sullivan has to do with the team arriving at this talent level (although from what I can tell, not a huge amount).

But I always suspected his philosophy and coaching would hold up with a strong level of talent. So far that looks true.

They are at the very least 4-5 seasons away right. Could be 3 if they nuke it. The issue I worry about is now we are working with different owners. We are no longer a 1st class organization, from what I have heard from people who were in the organization. Everyone from Lemieux's regime is gone - it's all FSG, and they are closer to Baldwin/Marino than Lemieux/Burkle.

It's setting up perfectly for Sid to take over with Mario financing his deal after this thing totally skids out. Done and done. Sid is the Prez/Owner of the Pens for the next 30 years.

Yea. He’s been averaging a pretty ugly turnover like every shift, but now he just set up a goal haha.

I think it's just a combination of Sid being at wing, him still being bothered by his arm/wrist injury, and he's like a decade older than most of the guys on Team Canada.

He doesn't look terrible but he's doing some dumb shit with the puck, which isn't particularly surprising to see as a Pens fan.

Makar is just somethin' else, man. Probably the closest we'll ever get to seeing a Bobby Orr again. Changes the entire complexion of the game and controls everything when he's on the ice.

I think Sid's always had issues with trying to force passes throughout his career tbh. It's probably magnified by playing out of position, likely not being able to put full power into his shots due to the arm/wrist thing, and playing on a line with a guy like MacKinnon who you'd obviously want to get the puck to.

Probably looking too much into it and I'm by no means a lip reader, but they had a shot of Sid and Marchand talking between periods and Sid was miming a shooting motion and sorta grimaced and shrugged. Dunno if he was saying he can't put a lot on his shots due to his wrist, or he was saying he wishes he got more on that chance he had in the slot that got saved. /shrug
