I went to Bratislava for the IIHF semis and the final in 2019. Everyone "knew" Finland was shit because we had no NHL players on the roster. I watched us take gold against all odds. Lankinen stood on his head in the final. So... We'll see.

Kudos to the Russian fan who lost our bet and humbly brought some fine single malt to my hotel room the day after they lost to us. Tasted good the day we beat Canada in the final.

We were the underdogs regardless. This just makes it so much worse. I think there could be some defencemen in Europe that I'd rather take on the team than Matinpalo TBH...

Oh, it's going to be fun as hell. But that doesn't mean people who are from countries that are good at hockey aren't being completely let down or don't have a completely valid point.

My question though... is the tournament locked down to only players with NHL games under their belts? Or could Finland potentially a better defenseman playing in Europe at this point?

Man, Sid is basically the same as when he entered the league. Less whiny than that 18 year old kid of course, but otherwise seems identical.
