Pretty sure Keith's nickname was Cement Head
I thought that was Ty Domi.....

They did this for 24 hours after a game once to decide who got the name. Keith won but only after Tie ran outside because he heard the ice cream man.

Finnish team could have been okay, but it was always certain it wouldnt survive any injuries and here we are.

Losing a guy like Heiskanen for Finland is like losing Makar for the Avs. They just dont have the depth to fix it.

I might see them have it mentally to try beat Sweden with pure effort because rivalry, but cant see them beating Canada with all that star power.

Can anyone who watched tonight’s USA/Finland game explain how Rantanen ends up with a stat line like that?

“Skated” around for 19min of ice time and has 1 hit with 0 shots.

He spent most of the game on his knees or on his ass. Fell over and over whenever he got the puck and was pressured. Mostly in the corners or behind the USA net.

Ah so even the hit was probably someone else hitting him.

The fact that Lehky had 4 shots compared to Rantanen’s 0 is wild to me. I mean Finland was a longshot to win tonight regardless, but at least some players tried.

While highest paid player does not equal “best player” (see Deshaun Watson, Dak Prescott, Tua, etc) - there was nothing Rants did last night that justified him being one of the highest paid players/get $13-14m/year. In fact, there was nothing he did that made you say “I need this guy on my team.”

There’s no denying he’s a great player, but this really highlights the importance of the system/fit, especially for certain guys and skill sets.

I’m still holding onto a tiny sliver of hope that Mikko realizes this and comes back in the offseason at a reduced rate (and yes I know that’s just not happening).

Maybe Rants just isn't the dominant player anymore but just a target guy who will finish plays. Last night he really tried to do something on his own, but nothing really comes out of it. He is just there to finish plays and obviously Finland don't have players level of Makar and MacK to feed him.

Yeah, that's the thing though. I saw quite a lot of fight from Rantanen compared to Avalanche games for example but he just isn't in good form at all.

Harley cleared to play in case Makar can't go

Basically that's the average Mitts stat line. Except Rants accidentally hit someone. Mitts don't do that.

New age Mike Hoffman...

The key takeaway in all of this to me is... Damn Lehky's a f***ing beauty. Backcheck, Forecheck, little paycheck. Dude is also absolute clutch when it comes to goal scoring.

Reminds me a bit of Carter Verhaeghe in Miami. They both just have a knack for game winners when needed.
