Purely an exhibition and a waste of time. Pond hockey
Damn, Chief. You are really next world curmudgeon, huh?

I have a feeling you'd bitch and complain if your girlfriend came home with her beautiful friend and told you she wants a threesome.

Would you prefer the current Allstar game nonsense, where they have bros with no helmets, floating around shooting pucks at paper plates duct taped to the crossbar? Come on. This tournament isn't a bad idea at all.

He's just mad they didn't make Byram the captain

She loves me so.much I bring her sister in too

Excellent. Please share the video.

But after you're all done, would the three of you prefer to watch Allstar bros floating around the ice showing off their hair - and shooting pucks at mannequins...... or maybe watch a country-focused tournament of great players?
Absolutely not

I usually can't stand A-blood's takes but I'm afraid I'm in agreement with him here. I can't even begin to muster excitement over this tournament. All it's doing is setting off anxiety that one or more Avs players will get hurt in a completely meaningless hockey game.

As for the All-Star game, I DGAF about that one. It's not for me, it's for the kids, so I don't mind them taking a week to just ham it up and do stupid shit for the cameras and audience. Less chance of getting hurt (though I will never get over Rob Blake getting hurt at the one in goddamn Minnesota).

4 teams full of star players that play against each other AND every one of them is legitimately trying to win?

Who can you not get excited to watch that?

Makes no real difference if the Avs players get hurt in that tournament or in game #42 of the regular season.

It's just a money racket exhibition, I doubt the players play hard or want to put themselves in too much jeopardy to get hurt.

It's also wrong time of year. Cancel the preseason and have it then at least

Of course there is going to be money to be made anytime there is a best on best, nation v nation tournament. Even as cynical as I am, I realize Hockey as a sport internationally has this appeal and has been absolutely starved for such a tournament for what seems like forever.

But I also get what you are saying about the timing in schedule as well as the fears folks have about someone getting injured. But I have to say, if I was an owner, I would much rather the tourney happen immediately after the Stanley Cup, rather than during the pre-season. At least minor bumps and bruises could still heal before the new season begins.

Hot take, but I like the USA's defensive core one through six better than Canada's. Makar is definitely the best of either bunch though.

However, I won't be watching this as I hate NHL-sponsored gimmicks that are money grabs. The 1996 World Cup was one of the best events I ever watched, even though I was still a young lad. It's not hard to bring that supreme tournament back than this rubbish. Don't even do a group stage, just take the top 16 in terms of current IIHF ranking points and do a playoff bracket ranked 1 v 16, 2 v 15, etc. The first and second rounds are single-game eliminations, the third round is best out of three, and the finals are best out of five. Boom, rating galore.

A tournament where the winning team could play up to 10 games is not going to happen. Also, teams 9 to 16 are absolutely rubbish we want best on best, not that crap.

There is no best on best without Russia and as much as I like the US dcore on the whole we all know Canada will win.

The Swedes and Fins are rubbish.

So you don't like the US better 1-6 then?

Yeah. Finns are always rubbish, and the more rubbish they are the more likely they'll upset you with a win. We're a 5,5million strong nation and we're still kicking (and most definitely eating) ass.
