The EH team won and are still best. I thought Binnington should have won player of the game. No matter who you cheered for this tournament, this was a million times better than the boring all-star weekend that 99% of real hockey fans do not care about. The only negative this tournament was the anthem singers, other than Todd and the lady who sang for Finland, those were some truly terrible performances. Looking forward the the next Olympics, that should be an amazing tournament on the biggest stage.

Might have been a different game with Matthew T healthy along with McEvoy. But with that these teams are so close in all aspects, which is why I wished they did a best of three for the final. Glad Canada won but the US lost one game all tournament, in OT, and they finished second. Meh.

I suspect Crosby was as banged up as Mathews was and he's a lot older and didn't sit out a game like Mathews did.

The bottom line is these teams are pretty well dead even, who would have guessed that Binnington would outperform Hellebucyk last night, that's what makes sports so great, the unpredictability.

Congrats to Canada, well done.
We had the best forward in the tourney ( McDavid) and the best dee in Maker, which proved to be to much for the USA to handle.
Very entertaining game.
Last night? Slavin was more impactful than Makar, dominant in his own end.

Fun tournament to watch. My complaint has nothing to do with what went on on the ice.
Start the games at 7:00pm, or even 6:30 if you want to have all kinds of pregame ceremonies.
In case you missed it there are other time zones in Canada and US. They want to max ratings, that simple.

I have always been a Jack Hughes fan, maybe because of his skating is something to watch, but he really looks lost out there.
He wasn't lost, he was defended against top 6 talent at F\D every shift. There was not much ice out tere. People shitting on Matthews don't seem to understand tus pretty basic concept. Who was better Hughes or Matthews? Matthews was way more impactful.

America beat them in regulation, Canada beat us in OT with spectacular goaltending. Canada won one game in regulation out of 4?

The world has caught up. The Olympics will be amazing I am already setting up to go to my wife's home.

The USA had a gutsy effort in this one, A healthy full roster wins that game.

Matt T never should have dressed it screwed them over.

Now onto blocking 6 posters for the first time in 19 years being here,

Come on the kid fell down every time someone came near him, toooooo small. Kid had zero impact on any shift other than the to winner last night.

Oh and for those who ever mentioned Fox and Charlie in the same breath? stop watching hockey.

It was a good game. US coulda, maybe shoulda, won. But they didn’t. Canada capitalized on their chances and U.S. didn’t.

The difference in the result is that Canada will talk about this this for years and America will have forgotten all about it by Monday. And, even more ironically, that would’ve been the case even if U.S. had won.

Game of inches that's all. Canada got lucky usa were the better team.
Both teams one a game against each other, People need to stop acting like this saved "Canada's" sport.

If Russia ever gets to play in the Olympics one of these teams may not walk away with a medal.

Bingo, let Canada talk about splitting two game against the USA for the next 100 years.

Adam Fox is turning into Wade Redden
Would have been better with John Carlson as 3RD. Losing Quinn Hughes and in game M.Tkachuk and not taking Thompson were important losses for US. I am a USA Hockey die hard and and can tell you that Nelson, Kreider and Trocheck should not have been ahead of Thompson, for certain. Honestly Ryan Leonard would have been a better choice than Kreider. Kreider had no legs and the posts on the NYR board about Kreider having back issues look like they are true.

Very true. The reasons hockey isn’t bigger in USA still exist no matter the results of this game. As an American hockey fan I’m perfectly okay with that, I want the players to get paid more but don’t worry too much about how many people like the sport.

Sometimes watching him, made me wonder he he had a pulse. I mean its just the way he is, kind of surprised when he grabbed Marchy by the shoulder.

The ending was Its too bad, one brain huge fart, because he played a great defensive tournament except for when it mattered the most and talk about snake bitten the guy could buy a goal.
Very fair post about Matthews. Sullivan replaced Eichel with Tkachuks with Matthews and they were on the ice for both US goals. Matthews lost coverage on goal but that happens in large part because Fox or Nelson iced the puck with little pressure.

Sports can be cruel. Matthews comfortably outplayed McDavid in this game. Made key plays on. the two US goals, engaged and productive all night, had multiple chances to end it in OT, while #97 struggled for impact, couldn't find his customary space, allowed a couple of bad turnovers and by his own admission was "not very good". But he got open and the puck found him at the right time, Matthews lost his man, McDavid put it in the net, and that was that. And that's what everyone will remember. Harsh, but that's the way it goes.
Yes, well said.
As much as I hate to admit Matthews did indeed play well. He jelled well with his teammates where the chemistry lacked between McDavid and his.

The other guy that impressed me was Sam Bennett. Played very tough, clean and he shot the puck. Nothing fancy....just sound hockey.

Binnington. My dislike for him has subsided over the years. Since his Cup win he's played on fairly lousy teams. Sure he doesn't have the Vezinas Hallebucyk has or the decent team to play for....but hes a playoff goalie. That's why I supported him He reminded everyone 2019 was not a fluke.

Marchand did not have a sparkling tourney. Some even here on this forum are writing him off.
Yet his teammates are saying saying something different after last night. Crosby praised him. Binnington as well. Perhaps we have to settle for their perspective.

Hallebucyk is a good goalie. But as I've said before....the guys playoff record is a disaster which boggled my mind as even Analysts on tv never mentioned it.
They saw Vezinas.
I saw his 18-28 playoff record.

Not sure if all saw it but Sportsnet showed the role call in the dressing room prior to the game in the dressing room given by Charles McAvoy.
As he read it he was getting more and more choked up due to not being able to play. The players saw it and acted appropriately giving him a hug...the first two was the Tkachuk boys.
A nice moment indeed.

Fox I thought didn't have a very good tournament, and the couple of games he played against the Bruins he was brutal.

Yea Eichel had a great tourny and I was surprised sully took him away from that match up but Matthews had a good game if you could just take away the ending and him not being able to bury his chances. :(

Did Marchand play? He should be well rested for Saturday. Get that trade value up Brad, love time to move on like every great player.
Too funny, if Jarvis buries his shot or goes back to Marchy it probably wouldn't of went to over time, but yea he played.

McAvoy must be just straight up gutted. I hope he heals and rehabs to be healthier and stronger, ready to go to war with a dramatically different Bruins roster next season

MacDavid and MacKinnon were beasts out there, best players on the ice.
Crosby and Doughty couple of old guys that can still deliver.
Marchand, Stone both way too old to be out there.
Love the blunder by Matthews to allow MacDavid to win it.
Also great to see the refs didn't destroy the game.
I do not think McDavid was a beast out there at all, game winner I understand, but underwhelming in opinion.
