Congrats to Canada, well done.
We had the best forward in the tourney ( McDavid) and the best dee in Maker, which proved to be to much for the USA to handle.
Very entertaining game.

Take out Marchand and Stone, too slow. Canada is weak defensively and in nets, they need to load up on scoring, skill and speed, which they can more than any other nation

Fun tournament to watch. My complaint has nothing to do with what went on on the ice.
Start the games at 7:00pm, or even 6:30 if you want to have all kinds of pregame ceremonies.

I think what sucks the most is:
-Beat Canada in round robin
-Finished round robin in first, with 6 points to their 5
-were dominating OT yet they manage to score the GWG
-foiled by Binnington on our ice.. again. Maddening.

But whatever. Back to watching the Bruins struggle for mediocrity Saturday.

Nature of the beast. That's hockey. In a tournament as short as this, you're not really going to get much differentiation between two such closely matched teams. Bit of luck or a single mistake or piece of brilliance either way, and that can be the game. Reinforces to me that we need to see more top level international competition. Firstly and simply because it's highly entertaining, secondly because it'll give us a better idea of the true pecking order between the teams.

Since that seems to be the plan going forwards, I'm all for it. NHL playoffs are special, but to me country v country hockey is still the best hockey. And I say that despite having no skin in the game. There's an extra layer of passion and meaning there that just makes it all the better.

It is Sullivan. The coaching staff will be back. The only change I can see is Guerin getting the boot.

USA Hockey is an Ol Boys Hockey Club. I don't see Guerin going anywhere. And I would also say I'm pretty damn upset with the Wild medical staff. Just don't see him being let go especially with the Olympics so close. Jacobs doesn't care enough to make a stink.

A fun event that sure beats the tar out of a traditional All-Star game ....lots of Canadians in the stands and we all had a good time- really appreciated that people came for the hockey and stayed focus on what was taking place on the ice.

The US team had multiple chances to win in ot - and the ghost of game seven Bennington was there to hold the fort. He may not be a consistently superior goalie but when he is feeling it he can be very, very good and a wall.

It was clear the US missed both McAvoy and Hughes on the back-end- way too many chips up the board and dump-outs. Was surprised at how invisible Fox was - on the other hand Slavin was a d-zone monster.

For a series that was a made-up event all credit to the players for making it into real hockey- the NHL hit a grand-slam

And now back to regular season programming

Of course it was McDavid. Of course it was Matthews who made a critical error. Of course Binnington came up huge in another winner-takes-all game at the Garden. Say what you will about the guy, he is clutch in big games.

All told, a very successful bit of business for the NHL. Hockey players really know how to bring it and entertain in these kinds of situations. Good fun. Some bragging rights for Canada, but nothing more yet. They and the US are clearly closely matched. One has more pure talent and offensive firepower, the other more depth and a team that can more quickly find good chemistry and rhythm. Sweden and Finland aren't miles away either, would expect the same of Czechia and Russia.

Looking forward to the Olympics and we will see who steps up when there is gold on the line and it really really matters. For now, well done Marchy, glad for him, and congrats Canada.

Back to the Bruins. Hmmmm......

Tkachuk had a great opportunity to win it. Didn't elevate the puck enough and
Binnington made a great game saving stop.

Sums up tonight and this tournament. Bragging rights seems to be the only thing that was on the line, and even that....ehhh..

They are still big brother to US and still have that confidence they can beat US with Binnington in net with 2026 Olympics one year away.

They are close but I will say US looked nervous and too often turned the puck over. Even the icing by Fox was a feel the pressure type play.

Crosby and Doughty couple of old guys that can still deliver.
Marchand, Stone both way too old to be out there.
Love the blunder by Matthews to allow MacDavid to win it.

Sports can be cruel. Matthews comfortably outplayed McDavid in this game. Made key plays on the two US goals, engaged and productive all night, had multiple chances to end it in OT, while #97 struggled for impact, couldn't find his customary space, allowed a couple of bad turnovers and by his own admission was "not very good". But he got open and the puck found him at the right time, Matthews lost his man, McDavid put it in the net, and that was that. And that's what everyone will remember. Harsh, but that's the way it goes.

This is a great synopsis of what went down for Matthews and McDavid.

I don't hear people bitching about Tkachukp defending MacKinnon on his goal and
missing a half open net in OT with Binnington being able to slide over and make the save of the series.

Where was Jack Hughes? No #1 pick just like Matthews. Matthews had in totality
a good game, better than Eichel who they removed from the Tkachuk's early and they were on ice for both US goals.

We lost, so that absolutely sucks and it diminishes how good that game was.
TD Garden isn't going to witness another game of hockey in my lifetime as
good and consequential as that game last night. Not as important as 2002 and especially 2010, but every bit as big as 1996 for USA and Canadian fans.

Might have been a different game with Matthew T healthy along with McEvoy. But with that these teams are so close in all aspects, which is why I wished they did a best of three for the final. Glad Canada won but the US lost one game all tournament, in OT, and they finished second. Meh.

Sometimes watching him, makes me wonder if he has a pulse. I mean its just the way he is, kind of surprised when he grabbed Marchy by the shoulder.

The ending was to bad, one huge brain fart, that lead to a missed coverage,and the winning goal, because he played a great defensive tournament except for when it mattered the most and talk about being snake bitten the guy couldn’t buy a goal.

WTG Canada - to those who think Canadians are arrogant, I thought I may as well have some fun! Which is the Freebird? Maybe tone down the arrogance yourselves. Most fans here were fair but some were just over the top obnoxious.

Arrogance doesn't stop at the border, please. Lots of arrogant Canadian posters on the main boards.

Be thankful that just the 5 biggest hockey playing states don't have the hockey culture Canada does because without a doubt it would be ad news for Canada.

Be thankful just the 3M's with the combined population less than Canada US board
